Senior Development Scientist
We are seeking an experienced Senior Development Scientist to take a lead role in the development of new analytical methods driven by regulatory requirements or client needs. This position provides technical expertise, supports troubleshooting activities, oversees the work required for project delivery, and manages a team of Development Scientists to ensure high standards across method development and validation.
This is an On Site Role.

Location: On-site, Oak Tree House, BB18 6JZ (working across both Broughton sites)
Salary: £39,700 – £52,000 per annum + Excellent Benefits
Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday–Friday (8‑hour days, 30‑minute lunch break)
Contract Type: Full Time, Permanent
Benefits: Annual Bonus: £1,200 based on company and personal performance, Holidays: 25 days plus statutory holidays (option to purchase one additional week), Broughton Day: Fixed day off every 2–3 weeks via salary sacrifice, Pension: Auto‑enrolment, Life Insurance: 2× death in service, Healthcare: Cash plan

We are seeking an experienced Senior Development Scientist to take a lead role in the development of new analytical methods driven by regulatory requirements or client needs. This position provides technical expertise, supports troubleshooting activities, oversees the work required for project delivery, and manages a team of Development Scientists to ensure high standards across method development and validation.
This is an On Site Role.
Responsibilities / Objectives
- Effectively manage workload within the team
- Interface with other Broughton teams to provide input into study design
- Develop expertise in the relevant field
- Innovate new ways of working
Key tasks
- Ensuring the team completes analysis competently and in a timely manner.
- Using hard copy and electronic data capture systems within the guidelines of the QMS.
- Reviewing analytical data and worksheets and notifying the Laboratory Manager of any discrepancies or potential product issues.
- Production of study protocols, reports and work instructions.
- Assist with activities within Operations to execute on sampling and testing plans to meet client study requirements.
- Managing the workload of a team of development scientists including undertaking require HR tasks such as performance reviews, monthly 121s, PDPs, training etc.
- Dealing directly with clients providing SME support, project updates and delivery schedule updates.
- All personnel involved in the conduct of a regulatory study must be knowledgeable in those parts of the principles which are applicable to their involvement in the study.
- Comply with the instructions given in test methods/study plans etc. Any deviation from these instructions should be documented and communicated directly to line manager or study director.
- All personnel are responsible for recording raw data promptly and accurately and are responsible for the quality of their data.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Degree in chemistry, or related field plus 5+ years working in a regulated analytical laboratory, a significant part of which in a method development/R+D environment
In order to be successful in this role you must have / be:
- Degree in chemistry or a related field.
- A minimum of 5+ years in a regulated analytical laboratory, with substantial experience in method development or R&D.
- Significant hands-on experience with HPLC, GC, MS, and CDS systems.
- Demonstrable expertise in analytical method development.
- Experience leading a team.
- Strong analytical and technical problem-solving skills.
- Experience working to GMP requirements.
- Confident verbal reasoning and strong IT capability.
It would be great if you had:
- Experience with root cause analysis.
- Experience working directly with clients.
- Strong communication skills across email, virtual and in‑person settings.
- Experience with Thermo instrumentation.
- Experience using Chromeleon and statistical packages.
