About the Role
We are seeking a talented full-time Systems Administrator to join our team. This role will report to the head of I.T. This role will be based at our Random42 offices in Central London. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, a talent for optimizing IT workflows, and will serve as the subject matter expert for our key technologies, including servers, networks, and cloud services. You will be a proactive, organized, and meticulous individual who can thrive in a collaborative environment.
Purpose of a Systems Administrator
As a Systems Administrator, you will serve as the backbone of an organization's IT infrastructure, ensuring its stability, security, and efficiency. You are responsible for the complete lifecycle of the company's computer systems, including the installation, configuration, maintenance, and reliable operation of servers, networks, and hardware. By managing user accounts, overseeing security protocols, performing critical data backups, and troubleshooting technical issues, a Systems Administrator ensures that all employees have seamless and secure access to the technology and data they need to perform their jobs effectively.

This position is based at our Marylebone office in London, with the expectation of working on-site 5 days a week to foster strong team collaboration. We value the benefits of working together in person but also recognise the need for flexibility. While the role is primarily office-based, occasional remote work for specific circumstances can be discussed and approved with your line manager.
Working Hours
Our standard working hours are Monday – Friday 10:00 – 18:00 (35 hours per week plus one-hour unpaid lunch break per day).

Key Responsibilities
- System Maintenance: Install, configure, and maintain servers, operating systems, and software.
- Hardware and Software Management: Manage and maintain all office hardware, software, and network components.
- User Support: Provide 1st, 2nd, and 3rd line support to our staff, troubleshooting and resolving technical issues in a timely manner.
- Network Administration: Oversee the company's local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), and network segments.
- Security: Implement and maintain security measures, including firewalls, antivirus, and data backup and recovery plans, to protect our systems from breaches and viruses.
- Performance Monitoring: Monitor system performance, identify potential issues, and implement solutions to improve efficiency and reliability.
- User Account Management: Manage user accounts, permissions, and access rights across our systems, including Active Directory.
- Documentation: Maintain clear and comprehensive documentation of systems, processes, and procedures.
- Project Work: Participate in and lead IT projects, including system upgrades and new technology deployments.
Essential Skills or Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Systems Administrator, Network Administrator, or similar role.
- Strong knowledge of operating systems (e.g., Windows, Linux) and cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS).
- Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
- Familiarity with database and network administration (e.g., SQL, TCP/IP).
- Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Bash).
- A strong understanding of IT security best practices.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Able to commute daily to our Central London office.
Desirable Skills or Qualifications
- Interest/experience in video editing / post production
- Building computers
- Proven experience in problem-solving and driving solutions.
- Demonstrates the ability to work autonomously, take initiative, and drive results.
- Shows willingness and pro-activity to drive process improvements.
- Has a strong ability to adapt to new technologies and evolving practices with a desire for continuous professional development.
