NHS Blood and Transplant is a special health authority within the NHS that manages the national supply of blood, organs, tissues and stem cells across England and Wales. Every year, the organisation collects over one million blood donations, coordinates organ transplants, and ensures safe, life saving supplies reach hospitals and patients who need them most. The organisation operates the largest blood processing facility in Europe and conducts world class research, including pioneering gene therapy and innovative battlefield transfusion techniques in partnership with the military. With over 5,800 staff working across laboratories, blood centres, logistics, and clinical services, NHSBT serves millions of patients while supporting 800,000 active blood donors and 28 million people on the Organ Donor Register.
