The Welsh Blood Service collects, tests and supplies blood products to every NHS hospital in Wales. From mobile clinics to specialist platelet and stem cell donations, the service ensures hospitals can treat patients with cancer, blood disorders, surgical needs and emergencies. Operating as part of Velindre University NHS Trust, it runs a reference laboratory for complex cases and manages the Welsh Bone Marrow Donor Registry.
Every day, 350 donations are needed. The service coordinates blood drives, donor care and processing at its Talbot Green headquarters. Stocks are monitored in real time and distributed across Wales by collection, testing, transplantation and logistics teams who maintain a safe and reliable supply chain for patients.
