Description
Finance Manager
Location: Cambridge, UK
Salary: £50,000–£65,000
Work Mode: On-site / Hybrid (minimum 3 days per week onsite)
About Abselion
Abselion is a Cambridge University spin-out transforming how scientists measure biomolecules. Our Amperia platform uses proprietary Redox Electrochemical Detection (RED) technology to quantify His-tagged and Fc-containing proteins, host cell proteins and AAVs directly from crude samples in minutes, without purification, and without specialist training.
We work with protein expression teams, antibody discovery groups and AAV development teams in academia, biotech and pharma across the globe who are tired of waiting days for analytical results that should take minutes. We are building the commercial team that will take Amperia from early adopters to a widely recognised standard in the field.
We are a team who care deeply about the science, move quickly, and believe that the best commercial outcomes come from genuinely understanding and helping customers solve real problems.
The Role
This is a hands-on, execution-focused role at the centre of Abselion's day-to-day financial operations. The Finance Manager will take ownership of the finance function's operational workload—ensuring invoices go out on time, cash is tracked, suppliers are paid, month-end closes cleanly, and nothing falls through the gaps.
The role exists to give the CEO back their time. You will be the person who makes the financial engine run reliably, and who builds the processes and habits that let it keep running as the company scales. In the first 90 days, the priority is getting under the bonnet of the current setup, establishing clean cadences, and making meaningful improvements to how the finance function operates day to day.
This is not a reporting or advisory position. It suits someone who is energised by execution, takes pride in accuracy, and is comfortable being the person who just gets things done.

- Close month-end in collaboration with external accountants, on time and to a consistent standard.

- Identify process gaps and implement practical improvements as the company grows.
Cross-functional collaboration

- Proven track record in an execution-focused position: Finance Manager, Financial Controller, Senior Accountant or similar.
- Strong working knowledge of AR, AP, month-end close, cashflow management and reconciliations.
- Highly organised and detail-oriented, with a track record of delivering to deadlines without being chased.
- Comfortable working autonomously in a small team where the scope of the role will evolve.
- Clear and direct communicator with non-finance colleagues and senior leadership.
Desirable
- Experience in a start-up or scale-up environment.
- Familiarity with manufacturing, hardware or consumables businesses, including inventory and COGS tracking.

- A role with genuine ownership and direct impact from day one.
- A close-knit, talented team working on technology that matters.
- The opportunity to grow with the company as we scale.
