In this new role, you’ll use your expertise, compassion and clinical skills to provide comprehensive, evidence-based nursing care to children and young people who have a range of complex health needs and life limiting or life-threatening conditions.
About the RoleAt Acorns Children’s Hospice, we provide specialist palliative care for children, and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions, and we support their families through every step of their journey, and through transition. Our work is defined by compassion, expertise, and an unwavering belief that every child deserves comfort, dignity, and the chance to experience joy. Our Children’s Palliative Community Nurses are part of a supportive, multi-disciplinary team delivering care that is tailored to each child’s individual holistic needs.
As a Children’s Palliative Community Nurse, you will:
- Deliver evidence-based end of life and symptom management and after death care to children and young people outside of the hospice
- Use clinical skills including, but not limited to, caring for children who require long term ventilation, tracheostomy care, oxygen therapy, suction, syringe drivers and enteral feeds etc. These competencies will be developed and maintained through structured, competency-based training.
- Undertake comprehensive assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care for children and young people with complex health needs, including life-limiting and life-threatening conditions, while working in partnership with their families.
- Empower children, young people and their relatives to make decisions about their care and to exercise choice
- Travel within a designated geographic area to visit patients in their homes or community settings
- This role requires autonomous lone working, making clinical decisions and managing patient care independently while coordinating with other healthcare providers as necessary
About You- Registered Children’s nurse, having completed preceptorship
- Demonstrable relevant experience in palliative care
- Proven experience of delivering care within a community environment
- Experience of working with children with complex health needs
- Ability to travel independently around the Acorns region
What We Offer- £24,480 to £32,640 per annum (£30,600 to £40,800 per annum FTE)

You need to be eligible to work in the UK to be considered for this role. We are committed to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults and therefore any successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check for children and will be asked to provide two satisfactory references. In addition, candidates will be asked to provide evidence of immunisation against specific diseases or confirm their willingness to receive the necessary vaccinations.
