Job summary
Arden House Medical Practice is looking to recruit an enthusiastic and committed GP to join our friendly practice team on a fixed term salaried contract until 31st March 2027 for 1 day per week.

We are keen to hear from GPs who are passionate about delivering high-quality, patient-centred care and who would enjoy working as part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will provide high-quality, safe and effective primary medical care to our registered patient population. The role will involve the assessment, diagnosis and management of patients presenting with a wide range of acute and chronic conditions, alongside preventative healthcare and health promotion.

About us
We are a small established NHS GP surgery, based in the beautiful High Peak area of Derbyshire.

We have a friendly and supportive team of GPs (2 partners and 1 salaried), 1 ANP, 1 practice nurse, 2 HCAs, 1 clinical pharmacist and a strong administrative team.

Our patient population is approximately 4600 with a mixed demographic. Our clinical system is EMIS.

Salary - Dependant on experience and BMA guidance

Main duties and responsibilities
Clinical care

• Conduct face-to-face, telephone and online consultations, as appropriate.
• Assess, diagnose and manage patients presenting with acute, chronic and complex conditions.
• Provide holistic, patient-centred care, taking account of physical, psychological and social factors.
• Develop management plans in partnership with patients and, where appropriate, their carers.
• Provide appropriate clinical advice, treatment and prescribing within professional competence.
• Arrange and undertake appropriate follow-up.
• Refer patients to secondary care, community services and other relevant professionals when clinically indicated.
• Provide appropriate safety-netting and ensure patients understand when and how to seek further help.
• Undertake home visits where clinically appropriate and agreed within the practices arrangements.
• Support the management of patients with long-term conditions, frailty, complex needs and palliative care requirements.

Clinical administration

• Review and action investigation results, correspondence and clinical tasks within agreed timescales.
• Complete clinical documentation accurately and contemporaneously.
• Provide appropriate clinical advice in relation to prescription requests and medication reviews.
• Complete reports, referrals, forms and other documentation within the agreed scope of the role.
• Communicate effectively with colleagues and external healthcare professionals.
• Contribute to safe and effective systems for clinical coding, monitoring and follow-up.

Team working and communication

• Work collaboratively with GPs, nurses, pharmacists, allied health professionals, administrative staff and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
• Provide appropriate clinical support and advice to colleagues.
• Participate in practice meetings, clinical discussions and significant event reviews.
• Contribute to a positive, respectful and supportive working environment.
• Communicate clearly and sensitively with patients, relatives, carers and colleagues.

Quality, governance and development

• Maintain professional registration and comply with GMC requirements.
• Maintain appropriate indemnity arrangements.
• Participate in appraisal, revalidation and continuing professional development.
• Undertake clinical audit, quality improvement and significant event reviews.
• Work in accordance with practice policies, local pathways, national guidance and professional standards.
• Contribute to the development and review of practice systems and clinical protocols.
• Identify and report risks, incidents, safeguarding concerns and patient safety issues appropriately.
• Maintain confidentiality and comply with information governance and data protection requirements.
• Participate in infection prevention and control procedures.

Safeguarding

• Recognise and respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns involving children and adults.
• Follow local safeguarding policies and referral procedures.
• Complete mandatory safeguarding training relevant to the role.

Scope of practice
The GP will work within their professional competence and experience. Any additional clinical, supervisory, educational or managerial responsibilities should be agreed in advance and reflected in the GPs job plan and contractual arrangements.

Working pattern and workload
The working pattern, clinical sessions, administrative responsibilities, meetings, protected learning time and other duties will be agreed as part of the GPs job plan. The practice will aim to ensure that the workload is safe, achievable and appropriate to the GPs level of experience and contracted hours.

The BMA recommends that GPs consider safe workload limits alongside the other responsibilities of general practice, including results, correspondence, prescribing, home visits, clinical governance, supervision and training.

Experience
Essential

• Appropriate professional indemnity or equivalent cover.
• Experience of working in general practice or a comparable primary care setting.
• Ability to assess and manage undifferentiated presentations.
• Ability to manage acute illness and long-term conditions.
• Good communication, consultation and clinical decision-making skills.
• Commitment to patient-centred care and shared decision-making.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Commitment to continuing professional development, clinical governance and reflective practice.

Desirable

• Experience of supervising or supporting trainees and other healthcare professionals.
• Experience of quality improvement, audit or service development.
• Additional clinical interests relevant to the practice population.
• Experience of working with complex patients, frailty, care homes or palliative care.
• Familiarity with the practices clinical system and relevant primary care IT systems.

Qualifications
Essential

• UK GP qualification or recognised equivalent
• Registered with the General Medical Council
• Inclusion on the NHS England Medical Performers List
