Job summary
The South West Gambling Service would like to recruit Clinical Psychologists or Cognitive Behaviour Therapists. We provide treatment to people experiencing gambling harms as well as their families and significant others, working in a trauma informed manner. These exciting new roles can be based in any location across the South West of England as we are a remote working team.

The roles involve assessment, formulation and treatment, providing Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Family Interventions, both individually and in groups. The role involves working as part of the MDT, participating in relevant meetings and processes, and supporting our wider network of partner organisations.

As Gambling services are new to the NHS we will provide support and training to help you in your role. The team have regular in-person meetings and there is a strong focus on staff wellbeing. The role will involve working at least one evening per week according to service needs and there will be opportunities to get involved in research and service development.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide, evidence-based psychological therapy to people who experience gambling harms in line with the NICE guidelines. The service covers the South West of England and the majority of our work is completed online (although face to face appointments may be required depending on service needs).

Job Summary (to be read alongside the key local information):

• Assess and treat people experiencing gambling harms and co-occurring needs, and maintain associated records on the electronic patient record system.
• Provide high-intensity, evidence-based psychological interventions; these will include at least Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Motivational Interviewing for people with a broad range of needs.
• Provide consultation, liaison, and, where appropriate, clinical supervision to other professionals, including less experienced therapists, Assistant Psychologists, and Trainee Clinical Psychologists.
• Undertake clinical audit and service evaluation activities to support the development of services relevant to client needs.
• Develop best-practice knowledge in working with people who gamble and promote expertise in this area, including supporting research projects where appropriate, with the guidance of the Clinical Lead.

Job responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive psychosocial assessments as required, taking into account issues of safety and suitability for psychological therapy, to formulate, implement, and evaluate treatment or support programmes for patients.
• Provide a psychological therapy service for individuals and groups as appropriate (e.g. CBT groups).
• Be part of the MDT to contribute psychological therapy knowledge, discuss care pathways, identify risk and safeguarding concerns, and engage in joint working as appropriate.
• Educate and involve family members and others in treatment and support, as appropriate.
• Adhere to an agreed job plan relating to the number of patient contacts offered and clinical sessions carried out per week, in order to minimise waiting times and ensure treatment delivery remains accessible and convenient.
• Ensure timely and accurate recording of all data required by the Trust, and maintain accurate records on the electronic patient record system.
• Ensure that patient confidentiality is protected at all times.
• Monitor clinical workload using agreed systems.
• Complete all requirements relating to data collection within the service.
• Provide a specialist consultancy service to multidisciplinary teams and other agencies providing care for people with gambling harms.
• Participate in clinical and caseload supervision arrangements provided by the service.
• Provide supervision to colleagues as required by the service.
• Attend and where appropriate chair multidisciplinary/professional meetings relating to referrals or patients in treatment.
• Carry out clinical audits of service performance, including service user surveys and evaluations, and help collate and disseminate the results for feedback.
• Attend Team Days and engage in CPD activities to support the development and maintenance of skills and knowledge.

Qualifications
Essential

• Doctoral qualification in clinical or counselling psychology, or postgraduate qualification in CBT
• HCPC registration or BABCP accreditation

Desirable

• Training in Motivational Interviewing
• Training in working with addictions

Experience
Essential

• Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team
• Experience of working as a psychological therapist in NHS services
• Experience of providing evidence-based assessments, formulation and therapeutic interventions in addiction or mental health services (individual and group)
• Ability to use clinical supervision and personal development positively and effectively
• Experience of safety assessment, safety planning and safeguarding

Desirable

• Experience working with people with gambling harms or other addictions
• Research and quality improvement experience
• Experience in teaching and training.
• Experience of working remotely and delivering therapy online
