This is an exciting opportunity to join the Dermatology Team at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust as a Skin Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist. We are seeking an experienced and motivated nurse to further develop their career within the Skin Cancer Multidisciplinary Team MDT.

The post holder will work across outpatient services, providing specialist support throughout the skin cancer pathway and delivering high-quality, patient-centred care. A key aspect of the role is the development of nurse-led services, providing expert assessment, diagnosis and management of patients with skin cancer, including dermatological assessment, dermoscopy, lesion evaluation and minor surgical procedures.

Working closely with the MDT, the successful candidate will contribute to the development of services, helping to improve patient outcomes, experience and quality of life. This is an excellent opportunity to play a significant role in the future development of skin cancer services while advancing your own clinical expertise within a supportive and innovative team.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will act as the designated key worker for patients undergoing investigation, treatment and surveillance for skin cancer at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. This specialist role provides the opportunity to develop advanced expertise in the assessment, diagnosis and management of skin cancer, ensuring care is delivered in line with national standards, evidence-based practice and NICE guidance.

The successful candidate will coordinate high-quality, patient-centred care throughout the skin cancer pathway, providing specialist advice, support and education to patients, families and carers. They will act as a consistent point of contact, helping patients navigate complex care pathways and treatment decisions.

As a key member of the multidisciplinary team, the post holder will provide clinical leadership, advocate for patients and contribute to the ongoing development of skin cancer services. A strong focus on patient safety, personalised care, patient experience and clinical outcomes will underpin all aspects of the role, alongside a commitment to service improvement and innovation to enhance care across the skin cancer pathway.

Experience
Essential
  • Significant skin cancer nursing experience
  • Evidence of change management and service improvement
  • Effective knowledge of research methodology with recent experience at Band 6 or above.

Desirable
  • Demonstrable experience in providing nurse led clinics

Qualifications

  • Evidence of academic study at Masters level.
  • RGN level 1.
  • Professional knowledge acquired through study at degree level.
  • Mentorship course
