Job summary
The Barts BioResource is looking for a compassionate and motivated Band 5 Nurse to join our core team. You will work as part of a modular team of three who embed within clinical areas to deliver safe, high-quality participant recruitment and help local teams build the skills and confidence to recruit to the BBR independently. This is a rewarding role for a nurse who enjoys patient contact, teaching others and improving services. You will screen, consent and support participants with clarity, model excellent practice and occasionally process and aliquot biological samples in line with laboratory standards. Main duties of the job
The postholder will be a core member of the Barts BioResource (BBR) team, working within a modular team of three nurses who embed into clinical areas across the Trust, to deliver safe, compassionate participant recruitment and build local capability. The role combines participant-facing activity with training, coaching and quality improvement. The postholder will also support biological sample processing and aliquoting in line with laboratory SOPs when required. Although this position is a 12 months fixed-term contract, the actual contract duration will be adjusted to account for the time taken to advertise the post, complete the hiring process, and finalise pre-employment checks. This means the contract will begin when the candidate starts the role and may be slightly shorter than 12 months.

Qualifications
Essential
  • Registered Nurse (NMC)

Desirable
  • Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training

Experience
Essential
  • Patient facing clinical experience.
  • Experience explaining clinical information clearly.
  • Experience with clinical data collection.

Desirable
  • Knowledge of and preferably experience in, the conducting of clinical trials
  • Training or coaching others
  • Experience of clinical trials and research approvals process

Knowledge
Essential
  • Understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality and data protection.
  • Awareness of the Health Research Authority.

Desirable
  • Awareness of clinical networks, NIHR or similar research programmes
  • Human Tissue Act

Skills
Essential
  • Excellent communication.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritise.
  • Strong record keeping.
  • Problem-solving mindset.
  • Ability to coach and support others.
  • Phlebotomy
