Job summaryThis post provides out-of-programme training in inherited cardiac conditions (ICC) for a candidate with suitable experience in clinical Cardiology. We expect post holders to undertake the same educational obligations as their colleagues.There will be opportunity to work in clinic, inpatients, imaging, exercise physiology, genetics as well as research and teaching.
Main duties of the jobClinical Training and Responsibilities:Clinic:? Cardiomyopathies: new and follow-up patients? Specialist clinic evaluating and investigating families with sudden arrhythmicdeath.Inpatients:Routine care of patients admitted under the care of the ICC team and evaluation ofthose referred for an opinion from the ICC team.Exercise PhysiologyTraining in conduct and interpretation of cardiopulmonary exercise testing

Job responsibilitiesGenetics1. Training in basic clinical genetics / genetic counselling2. Conducting family screening.3. Instruction in basic laboratory techniques (DNA extraction / PCR /sequencing)Non-clinical training and responsibilities:Research1. Work with clinical and research staff on existing projects2. Develop own research project in inherited cardiac diseaseTeaching To participate in teaching of medical students.Governance To participate in audit and clinical governance at Barts Heart. This may includeresponsibility for managing multidisciplinary meetings and/or a programme ofclinical audit.
Person SpecificationQualifications- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- Successful completion of MRCP or equivalent
- Full registration with the GMC with a licence to practice at the time of appointment
Desirable- Post graduate medical research degree
Experience- Working in MDTs
- Previous experience of working as ST1/2 or equivalent
- Previous cardiology experience
Desirable- Managing young patients with heart disease
- Genetic counselling
- Managing cases and families with inherited cardiomyopathy
- Advanced cardiac imaging
- Interpretation of genetic test results
Knowledge & Skills- Good knowledge of the spectrum of cardiological disease
- Good knowledge of the spectrum of cardiological disease
- Managing symptoms and mortality risks in patients with progressive chronic cardiac disease
- Teaching and education
- Good leadership skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, patients, relatives, GPs, nurses & other agencies.
- Enthusiasm & ability to work under pressure.
- Good organisational skills.
Desirable- Managing implantable cardiac devices
- Research methodology and audit

- Maintain and safeguard patients through CPD and appraisal
