Job summary
The closing date is 15 July 2026. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 registered nurse to join the Stoma Care Team to increase their knowledge and skills in supporting patients who have a stoma.

Although this post is full-time, part-time hours of a minimum of 30 per week would be considered.
Main duties of the job
- To act as the patient's advocate in decision making in regard to stoma formation and underlying diagnosis including cancer and benign disease.
- To develop an understanding of surgical procedures and the associated nursing needs of the patient.
- To manage own caseload under the supervision of the Stoma Care CNS, within the hospital and community setting.
- To provide emotional support, education and information to patients/ carers and their families in regard to stoma formation.
- To provide accurate information and education to nursing/medical staff, patients/carers and their families in regard to stoma formation.
- To act in a consultation capacity within the specialist field, to all nursing, medical and other health professionals as relevant within the Trust, giving clinical advice, guidance and support.
- To teach and support the patients in becoming independent and competent in managing their stoma to ensure positive patient experience prior to a safe discharge.
- To support the running of the nurse led clinics in both hospital and community settings and undertake training to become independent in running the clinics.

Job responsibilities
The post holder will provide support to the current Stoma Care Service in providing an expert stoma nursing support and advisory service. The post holder will be responsible for the assessment, implementation and evaluation of patients who require stoma formation, working within the Luton & Dunstable Hospital and also the Luton and South Bedfordshire community setting. They will assist in the supervision of nursing staff in the defined clinical area to provide highest standards of care. They will also participate in teaching sessions, audit projects and service development in liaison with the Stoma Care Team, to provide a professional, researched and evidence based practice. Act as a role model, support and provide supervision to nursing staff in all clinical areas to provide highest standards of evidence based care.
