Job summary
This post is a 12 month fixed term opportunity to develop your career in clinical pharmacy.

This post does require on-call, out of hours, weekend or bank holiday working.

We are seeking a highly skilled, motivated, and enthusiastic senior pharmacist. You will be responsible for leading, supporting and developing the clinical pharmacy service to ensure all our patients receive exceptional pharmaceutical care.

You will oversee the delivery of high quality, proactive and patient focused clinical pharmacy services in a range of specialties across the paediatric directorates.

This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced pharmacist who is keen to undertake a leadership role to further develop our patient focused clinical pharmacy service as well as utilise their clinical experience in a specialist setting.

Main duties of the job
To lead, develop and deliver the clinical pharmacy service to ensure all patients receive outstanding pharmaceutical care

To co-ordinate the day-to-day duties, overseeing any additional duties required, identifying any gaps and devising a plan to manage them.

To supervise, motivate and support the team to ensure smooth and efficient flow of work.

To deputise for the Principal Pharmacist as required

To work with the Pharmacy and wider multidisciplinary teams to deliver service improvement projects to enhance patient care, efficiency, quality and safety across a number of clinical areas.

To attend multidisciplinary team and finance meetings to better patient care, safety and cost efficient use of medicines.

To write directorate reports, reporting on the finance, medicines safety and governance agenda

To support clinical governance processes across the divisions, investigating incidents where required and support medicines optimisation.

Qualifications
  • MPharm or equivalent degree
  • Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council as a Pharmacist
  • Post-graduate diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent experience

Desirable
  • Membership of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society
  • Pharmacist Independent Prescriber

Knowledge & Nature of Experience
  • Minimum of three years post-qualification experience including substantial hospital experience.
  • Experience of financial management and reporting.
  • Experience of report writing.
  • Experience of undertaking drug usage reviews and audit.
  • Experience of preparing drug evaluations.
  • Experience of formally interacting with senior clinicians and management.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Appreciation of the relationship of the Department of Health, Public Health England and individual providers and commissioning organisations.
  • Sound knowledge of current national standards and guidelines relevant to the safe prescribing of high risk medicines.
  • Good oral and written communication skills for a variety of audiences including patients, parents/carers and healthcare professionals
  • Provide and receive highly complex, sensitive and contentious information, negotiate with senior stakeholders on difficult and controversial issues, and present complex and sensitive information to large groups
  • Ability to persuade senior staff of the respective merits of different options, innovation and new opportunities.
  • Negotiate on difficult, complex and detailed issues.

Desirable
  • Experience of developing business cases.
  • Experience of project management.
  • Experience of working across organisational boundaries.
  • Understanding of the background to and aims of current healthcare policy and appreciate the implications on engagement.

Analytical and Judgement Skills
  • Ability to analyse data on medication use and make recommendations on prescribing practice
  • Application of skills to optimise individual patient's medication
  • Problem solving skills and the ability to respond to sudden unexpected demands
  • Ability to analyse complex facts and situations and develop a range of options
  • Able to make decisions on difficult issues where there may be a number of courses of action
  • Ability to anticipate and resolve problems before they arise

Professional/Managerial/Specialist Knowledge
  • Input to strategic plans of internal and external teams
  • Work with stakeholders to develop performance improvement plans
  • Able to work effectively with colleagues as part of a team.
  • Skills for managing relationships with a range of different stakeholders.
  • Computer literacy including the ability to use Office applications such as Word and Excel

Personal Skills/Abilities and Attributes
  • Effective organizational skills. Ability to prioritise a complex workload and work accurately under pressure adjusting plans to reflect changing circumstances
  • Experience of managing and motivating a team of staff
