This is an exciting opportunity to join the Liver Unit Specialist Nurse team as a Specialist Staff Nurse.

The Liver Unit at Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust, is one of three supra regional centres designated by the Department of Health for management of paediatric liver disease and transplantation. We are also one of two centres in the UK undertaking paediatric Intestinal transplantation.

We are seeking a registered nurse who shows enthusiasm, is dynamic, keen to learn and embrace new technology to enhance patient care. The role requires the post holder to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Main duties of the role will include

• After training, to perform Fibroscans in outpatients and ward, alongside further develop of the Fibroscan service
• Preparing blood requests for outpatients
• Obtaining blood results from hospitals and clinics across the UK with support of our Immunosuppression nurse
• The post holder is expected to support the Liver Unit Specialist Nurse team to maintain and deliver integreted care.

This is an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified nurse to extend their experience and knowledge of hepatology and transplantation within a supportive environment.

Main duties of the job
To notify and build on networks of care and support within the children's own primary health care and shared care teams so that discharge is planned, co-ordinated and families understand communication channels particularly related to Liver Direct.

To act as a clinical resource for nursing and clinical management advice for patients within the Liver Unit, both locally and nationally.

To support the co-ordination the management of immunosuppression for Liver Unit patients including liaison with Pharmacy for home delivery of medication alongside our Immunosuppression Nurse.

The post holder should deliver safe, high-quality care and deal promptly with all issues relating to patient safety and governance.

To assess and meet the information needs of children of all ages and their families.

To assess carer's ability to give care related to treatments, and then ensure they are trained to give the care needed at home for their child. This is done in collaboration with ward nursing team and in accordance with Trust policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Children's Nursing Degree (BSc) or equivalent degree level nursing qualification
• NMC Registered, or eligible to apply for NMC registration once qualified
• Evidence of recent and ongoing professional development
