We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Assistant Psychologist to join our Forensic Community Learning Disability Team on a permanent, full-time basis.

This is an interesting and varied role within a specialist service offering the opportunity to work with adults with learning disabilities who have forensic needs. This post is well established and is vacant due to be previous post holder gaining a place on the Clinical Psychology Doctorate.

We are looking for someone who can bring a thoughtful, collaborative and psychologically informed approach to the role. This role would suit someone who is keen to develop their clinical and professional skills within a specialist NHS psychology service and who is interested in working collaboratively with colleagues from a range of disciplines.

The team base is in Oldbury, and the successful candidate will be working across the Black Country in Walsall, Wolverhampton, Dudley and Sandwell with travelling between localities being a necessity of the role.

You will have opportunities to develop your experience across clinical work, group facilitation, MDT working and service evaluation and improvement.

We have excellent support for aspiring psychologists, providing regular Trust wide reflective practice and CPD opportunities. You will be supervised by a Senior Clinical Psychologist and you will also regularly work alongside trainee psychologists.

Main duties of the job

• To administer standardised psychological assessment of clients and collect assessment data from a variety of sources.
• Responsible for recognising the potential for or signs of client harm, abuse or neglect, including poor clinical practice, reporting all such concerns and taking all reasonable steps to protect the client. Responsible for identifying and reporting concerns regarding the safeguarding of individuals who may be at risk.
• Under the supervision of an Applied Psychologist, supports the development of psychological formulation and intervention plans for individual clients and/or their carers. Negotiates the implementation of such plans with clients and/or their carers.
• Under the supervision of an Applied Psychologist, implements psychological interventions for individual clients, carers, families and groups.
• Under the supervision of an Applied Psychologist, to develop resources and materials to support the delivery of the service.
• To maintain appropriate records by adding to the patient's clinical notes and to provide written reports of psychological assessments and interventions.
• To contribute to service audit and development.

In this role you will be a key part of our wider multi-disciplinary team of psychologists, nurses, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists and psychiatrists. We work closely with our psychology colleagues within the rest of the Black Country Trust and with the local doctorate courses. Working as part of an effective and highly motivated multi-disciplinary team, with an essential commitment to multi-disciplinary working, you will receive regular supervision and support to develop your knowledge and experience and further your career. Many previous assistant psychologists have successfully applied to the local doctorate courses and the role also offers the opportunity to work alongside current trainees on placement with us in the Black Country.

Person Specification
Essential and desireable
Essential

• Have at least a 2:1 undergraduate degree in Psychology that allows Graduate Basis for Chartered (GBC) membership with the BPS
• Must have experience of working as an assistant psychologist or equivalent
• Experience of working in an MDT

Desirable

• Experience of working in a forensic setting
• Experience of working with Adults with a learning disability
