Job summary
There is an exciting opportunity to join our dedicated ECT (Electroconvulsive Therapy) Team based at Bushey Fields Hospital. We are looking for a highly motivated band 5 nurse to join our small team. Candidates must hold some knowledge of ECT but previous experience is not essential. The job is part time assisting in the delivery of ECT on a Tuesday or Friday morning in our ECT clinic. The ECT service has been centralised and delivers ECT trust wide. We are extremely passionate about our team, the service and the care that we provide. Our staff are highly skilled and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work alongside colleagues from a wide variety of clinical backgrounds.

Main duties of the job
Main Duties/Responsibilities
Clinical Care
  • Deliver safe, effective and evidence-based nursing care to patients receiving ECT.
  • Undertake physical health observations, assessments and monitoring before, during and after treatment.
  • Support patients and carers by providing information, reassurance and education regarding ECT treatment.
  • Monitor patients during recovery and escalate concerns appropriately.
  • Maintain accurate, timely and comprehensive clinical records.
  • Participate in risk assessment and management processes.
  • Recognise and respond to medical or mental health emergencies.

Job responsibilities
ECT Service Delivery
  • Assist in the preparation of patients for ECT treatment sessions.
  • Work collaboratively with psychiatrists, anaesthetists, operating department staff and recovery teams.
  • Ensure ECT equipment and treatment environments are prepared and maintained in line with operational procedures.
  • Support compliance with the ECT Accreditation Service (ECTAS) standards and relevant national guidance.
  • Contribute to audits, quality improvement initiatives and service development.

Communication
  • Develop therapeutic relationships with patients, families and carers.
  • Communicate sensitive and complex information in a clear and compassionate manner.
  • Work closely with inpatient wards, community teams and other professionals involved in patient care.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and case discussions.

Professional Practice
  • Maintain registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
  • Practise in accordance with the NMC Code.
  • Participate in clinical supervision, appraisal and continuing professional development.
  • Support student nurses and newly qualified staff as required.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with information governance requirements.

Safeguarding and Risk Management
  • Promote the safety and wellbeing of vulnerable adults.
  • Adhere to safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Report incidents, near misses and concerns in line with Trust policy.
  • Contribute to creating a positive, safe and inclusive environment for patients and staff.
