Description
Job summary
Are you an experienced Practitioner Psychologist looking for a specialist role where you can make a meaningful difference to people living with sickle cell disease and thalassaemia? Join our Clinical Health Psychology Service and bring the full range of your clinical, consultation and leadership skills to a supportive multidisciplinary team.
This is a Band 8a, part-time post at 0.6 WTE (22.5 hours per week) within the Sandwell and West Birmingham Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Service. Based at Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH), you will work as a key member of the Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia multidisciplinary team.
Main duties of the job
The role
You will provide specialist one-to-one psychological assessment and intervention, facilitate group work for patients referred by the team, and help embed psychologically informed care across the service. You will also offer teaching, training, supervision and consultation to multidisciplinary colleagues, enabling them to recognise and respond effectively to psychological needs and incorporate psychological principles into their practice.
Our aim is to reduce psychological distress, improve quality of life and patient experience, and enhance wellbeing for people living with physical health conditions. We work within a stepped-care model informed by clinical guidance: Clinical Health Psychology provides direct intervention for people with the most complex needs while supporting the wider team to respond to lower-level distress through teaching, training, supervision and consultation.
About us
What we offer
You will receive specialist professional support and supervision from the Principal Clinical Psychologist leading this area, alongside peer support from the wider Clinical Health Psychology team. The team includes Clinical, Counselling and Health Psychologists working across Dudley, Sandwell and Wolverhampton with people experiencing a wide range of physical health conditions. As part of Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, you will also join a broad community of psychological professionals working across Adult Mental Health, Older Adults, Learning Disabilities and Children's Services. You will benefit from a strong professional structure, varied development opportunities and access to the Trust's fully funded CPD package for psychological professionals.
