Job summary
Are you a passionate, motivated Dental Nurse looking to make a real difference in your community?

The Community Dental Service's award-winning Oral Health Improvement Team is seeking an enthusiastic Dental Nurse, Oral Health Improvement Practitioner to help transform the oral health of children, families and communities across our local area. This is an exciting opportunity to move beyond the traditional dental setting and play a vital role in delivering innovative, evidence-based oral health improvement programmes where they are needed most. You will work directly within schools, nurseries and community settings, empowering children and families to develop lifelong healthy habits and helping to reduce oral health inequalities. The successful applicant must be registered with the General Dental Council and have obtained the National Certificate of the Examining Board for Dental Nurses or equivalent.

The successful candidate will be supported to complete the Oral Health Improvement qualification commencing in November 2026.

Main duties of the job
  • To work collaboratively within the 0-19 service framework to deliver communitybased oral health improvement programmes and advice to health care professionals across a wide range of settings.
  • To provide chair side and clerical assistance to Consultants, Specialists, Senior Dental Officers, Dental Officers and Dental Therapists.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
  • Registered with the General Dental Council.
  • National Certificate of the Examining Board for Dental Nurses or equivalent
  • Post qualification in dental subject or equivalent experience

Desirable
  • UCLAN certificate in oral health and application of fluoride varnish or Certificate of competence in fluoride varnish application NEBDN oral health qualification or the BDA oral health qualification.
  • Teaching qualification or equivalent
  • Post qualification in any of the following: Conscious Sedation / Radiography / Special care

Training
Essential
  • Demonstrate a commitment to CPD

Experience
Essential
  • The handling and collection of patient charges

Desirable
  • Experience with working with special needs/vulnerable groups
  • Experience of Oral Health Promotion
