Job summaryWe are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic ADHD Clinical Lead to provide senior clinical leadership to our ADHD Service in Brighton & Hove.
This role is open to experienced clinicians from one of three professional backgrounds:
Registered Nurse with current NMC registration
Registered Pharmacist with current GPhC registration
Registered Occupational Therapist with current HCPC registration
You will need significant clinical experience, relevant experience and or training in ADHD assessment and diagnosis, and evidence of advanced clinical practice.
The post combines a clinical caseload with senior clinical leadership. You will undertake ADHD assessments and diagnosis within your professional scope of practice, while providing clinical oversight, advice and support to the Brighton & Hove clinical team.
You will work closely with Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust Clinical Supervisors, who provide formal clinical supervision, and with Clinical Leads across the wider Primary Care Connect ADHD programme.
Main duties of the jobThe ADHD Clinical Lead will provide senior clinical leadership to the Brighton & Hove ADHD Service, supporting safe, effective and consistent assessment and diagnostic care.
Key responsibilities include- Undertaking ADHD assessments and diagnosis within professional scope of practice.
- Providing senior clinical oversight of referral triage, including identifying complexity, risk, safeguarding concerns and cases requiring escalation.
- Supporting clinicians with complex or uncertain presentations, clinical decision-making and appropriate escalation.
- Acting as a link between the local clinical team and SPFT Clinical Supervisors, without replacing formal clinical supervision.
- Promoting evidence-based, patient-centred and neuroinclusive practice.
- Contributing to clinical governance, patient safety, audit, incidents, complaints, risk management and quality improvement.
- Supporting development and review of clinical pathways, SOPs, competencies and models of care.
- Contributing to training, peer learning and professional development.
- Working with GP practices, PCNs, SPFT, NHS Sussex and other system partners.
- Collaborating with Clinical Leads in the other Federations to share learning and support consistent standards across the wider ADHD programme.

Job responsibilitiesAs ADHD Clinical Lead, you will:
Clinical assessment and diagnosis- Undertake comprehensive ADHD assessments in accordance with the agreed service pathway, clinical guidance and professional standards.
- Undertake clinical assessment and diagnosis of ADHD within your professional scope of practice.
- Consider differential diagnoses and co-existing conditions.
- Identify clinical complexity, risk and safeguarding concerns.
- Determine when further assessment or specialist input is required.
- Explain assessment outcomes and diagnostic decisions clearly to patients.
- Maintain an appropriate clinical caseload alongside the leadership responsibilities of the role.
Clinical triage and leadership- Provide senior clinical oversight of the ADHD referral and triage function.
- Review referrals and available clinical information to determine suitability for the service.
- Identify complex cases, clinical risk, safeguarding concerns and presentations outside the agreed pathway.
- Provide senior clinical advice and support to clinicians.
- Support clinicians with complex, unusual or uncertain cases.
- Provide constructive professional challenge where appropriate.
- Support clinicians to recognise the boundaries of their competence and escalate appropriately.
- Help identify cases requiring formal clinical supervision or specialist advice.
Working with SPFT Clinical SupervisorsYou will work closely with SPFT Clinical Supervisors, acting as an important link between the Brighton & Hove clinical team and the formal clinical supervision arrangements.
The Clinical Lead
will not replace or undertake the formal clinical supervision responsibilities of SPFT Clinical Supervisors.
Clinical governance, quality and patient safetyYou will make a significant contribution to clinical governance and patient safety, including:
- Clinical audit and quality improvement.
- Identification and management of clinical risk.
- Incident investigation and learning.
- Clinical input into complaints.
- Clinical risk assessments and risk registers.
- Review of clinical hazard logs and safety documentation.
- Monitoring clinical quality indicators and KPIs.
- Using clinical data, patient feedback, incidents and complaints to identify opportunities for improvement.
Service developmentYou will contribute to the ongoing development of the ADHD Service in Brighton & Hove and the wider NHS Sussex Primary Care Connect ADHD model.
This will include:
- Reviewing and improving clinical pathways.
- Supporting evidence-based service improvements.
- Contributing to service evaluation.
- Supporting pathway redesign and service transformation.
- Supporting development of clinical competencies.
- Advising operational colleagues on clinical implications of service changes.
- Contributing to workforce and clinical capacity discussions.
- Working collaboratively with GP practices, PCNs, SPFT, NHS Sussex and other partners.
Training and professional developmentYou will support the development of the clinical workforce through:
- Supporting induction of new clinicians.
- Identifying training and development needs.
- Supporting peer learning and case discussion.

Person SpecificationQualificationsEssential- Applicants must hold current UK professional registration in one of the following professions:
- Nursing - Registered Nurse with current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
- Pharmacy - Registered Pharmacist with current registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
- Occupational Therapy - Registered Occupational Therapist with current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- A relevant professional qualification at degree level or equivalent.
- Significant post-registration clinical experience.
- Relevant training, experience and/or qualification in ADHD assessment and diagnosis.
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
- Evidence of advanced clinical practice relevant to the role.
- Independent prescribing qualification where professionally applicable.
Desirable- Relevant postgraduate qualification.
- Qualification or formal training in clinical leadership or management.
- Additional specialist training in ADHD, neurodevelopmental conditions or related areas.
