Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join a friendly, supportive and forward-thinking Critical Care and ECMO Therapy team, committed to delivering high-quality, evidence-based care to critically ill patients across the critical care pathway. As a Critical Care Clinical Specialist, you will provide clinical leadership and expertise within our integrated multidisciplinary team, supporting the delivery of acute respiratory, rehabilitation and follow-up care. We are a research-active service with a strong commitment to innovation, education and continuous improvement, and our ambition is to be recognised as a leading centre for critical care therapy in the UK. Main duties of the job
  • Working closely with Divisional and Pathway Leads, and Consultant Therapist, to provide clinical leadership and expertise to the integrated team supporting the critical care pathway
  • To lead on clinical education, competencies and guideline development to ensure an evidence based, comprehensive, integrated and efficient service is provided to critical care patients
  • To lead on the development of skills and knowledge across the team
  • To seek opportunities to continuously develop the service in this clinical area to ensure the delivery of patient centred care at all times
  • To identify research opportunities and support the therapy involvement in research trials within critical care
  • The post holder will be required to work shifts including weekends, on-call and to participate in the bank holiday rota

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
  • Degree in Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy
  • HCPC registration
  • Post registration qualification in clinical or research topic
  • Post graduate training in Critical Care and rehabilitation

Experience
Essential
  • Clinical Experience at a senior level in Critical Care Pathways
  • Experience of leading teams - day to day management including management of issues such as absence or performance management
  • Experience of recruiting, interviewing & appointing staff
  • Experience in the induction, monitoring & supervision of staff
  • Experience as a Fieldwork Educator - Supervision of students on placement

Knowledge and skills
Essential
  • Up-to-date evidence base used to ensure the delivery of best practice and innovative therapy provision throughout the critical care pathway
  • Highly skilled at managing critical care patients, including the creation and ongoing adjustment of weaning strategies
  • Able to demonstrate clinical & professional leadership skills e.g. development & implementation of practice standards
  • Highly skilled with advanced respiratory assessment and treatment (Physio) or highly skilled with advance cognitive assessment and treatment (OT)
