Job summary
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Critical Care ICNARC Nurse to join our dynamic Critical Care Unit and team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in supporting the delivery of high-quality critical care services through accurate data collection, analysis, and reporting.

As part of the multidisciplinary Critical Care team, you will be responsible for the submission and validation of data to the Intensive Care National Audit & Research Centre (ICNARC), helping to ensure compliance with national standards and contributing to service improvement initiatives that directly impact patient outcomes.

The successful candidate will work closely with clinicians, nurses, operational teams, and information analysts to collect, validate, and submit critical care data. You will ensure the accuracy and integrity of information used for national audit, quality benchmarking, performance monitoring, and service development.

The postholder will require a proactive and dynamic approach to data analysis and reporting, ensuring that key quality indicators on the critical care unit are recognised and where a shortfall of these standards is detected, this is reported to the lead nurse and lead consultant for ICU.

Main duties of the job
As part of the ICU audit team, participate in accurate and timely audit data collection, inputting, validation and submissions of data to external agencies.

Promote the importance of audit and accurate data collection to the multi-disciplinary team and respond to requests for information.

Prepare monthly reports for the ICU multidisciplinary team on quality and safety metrics and attend monthly ICU audit meetings.

The post holder will be jointly responsible for maintaining a robust system of data collection of clinical and demographic information, analysis and reporting using the ICNARC (Intensive Care National Audit and Research Centre) and the Critical Care Minimum dataset (CCMDS).

Job responsibilities

• Data entry and day-to-day management of the MedICUs database.
• Responsible for the collection, validation, management and safe keeping of data within MedICUs, capturing CCMDS and ICNARC data.
• Regular checks on the accuracy of the data e.g. using queries to check for missing data and repeat data entry
• Timely and accurate submission of data to ICNARC and CCMDS data base systems, manage returns and queries.
• Ensuring clinical knowledge and expertise is used to interpret data and ensure its accuracy before submission
• Produce reports and presentations to the ICU staff as required based on the data collected.
• Liaise closely and communicate with all Clinical staff to ensure accurate, timely and consistent data collection.
• Follow up patients on the ward and other hospitals
• Produce data and statistics for reports monthly and when else required
• Support the clinical teams with project developments and report generation from the ICNARC system and CCMDS to ensure benchmarking and achieving key quality indicators are achieved.
• Support the clinical teams with timely data retrieval and submission of reports to the critical care team and wider trust as well as the national ICNARC seminars and conferences as requested.
• Use widespread knowledge of ICNARC system and clinical experience and expertise to foster partnerships with clinical teams within NBT.
• Working with all the ICNARC team members to ensure the critical care unit is provided with ICNARC and CCMDS cover for the core working period of Monday to Friday, and that cross cover is provided for the unit during periods of annual leave.

• Minimum 12 months post registration experience in the ICU setting

• Database experience including Excel, Word and Outlook

• Ability to analyse complex clinical records and extract and input the appropriate data accurately which is required for the specific task.
