Job summary
We are looking for an experienced practitioner to join the Arrhythmia Nurse team at the Bristol Heart Institute on a fixed-term basis to provide maternity leave cover. The role offers an opportunity to work within a specialist Electrophysiology service, supporting patients with, or at risk of, arrhythmias.

This role may suit an existing Trainee Enhanced Practitioner looking to expand their role, or an experienced clinician with expertise in arrhythmia management. We are looking for an individual with strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills alongside leadership qualities required to support the existing nursing service. The successful applicant will work alongside the existing Band 7 Arrhythmia Enhanced Practitioner to support and line manage team members and lead on service improvement.

The successful applicant will work closely with consultants, enhanced practitioners, physiologists and the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality care for our patients.

The role requires advanced clinical expertise in the assessment and management of patients with arrhythmias, including autonomous decision-making. We would consider applications from experienced Band 6 nurses who not yet meet all the criteria for a Band 7 post. A supported trainee pathway can be offered, enabling the successful candidate to develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence required to progress into the Band 7 role. We will consider part-time candidates.

Main duties of the job

• Work collaboratively with consultants, physiologists, nursing colleagues, primary care services and wider multidisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care and ensure effective communication across care settings.
• Provide clinical advice, management and reassurance through nurse-led telephone and email services, responding appropriately to urgent and non-urgent enquiries.
• Deliver nurse-led clinics and telephone consultations within agreed scope of practice.
• Perform autonomous patient assessment, including comprehensive clinical history taking and physical assessment where appropriate.
• Interpret ECGs and other cardiac investigations to support clinical decision-making
• Work within outpatient, inpatient and clinical office environments.
• Undertake line management responsibilities, including appraisal, performance management, sickness monitoring and regular one-to-one meetings.
• Work collaboratively with the existing Band 7 Arrhythmia Enhanced Practitioner to support the leadership and development of the service.
