Job summary
We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic dietitian to join our large department within the inpatient ward team. The successful candidate will provide dietetic cover to the gastroenterology ward involving oral nutritional support and enteral feeding across a variety of conditions. This post will also include gastroenterology out-patient work with clinics each week to support IBD patients and general gastroenterology.

There would be an expectation that this post holder would be involved in training student dietitians from both Plymouth and Birmingham City Universities, on completion of the clinical supervisory skills course.

We offer a variety of in house CPD opportunities, clinical supervision and preceptorships for newly qualified staff.

Main duties of the job
  • Provide dietetic cover to the gastroenterology ward involving oral nutritional support, enteral feeding, this patient group includes IBD, haematology patients and eating disorders. The post holder may also be called to support to eating disorder patients who may be based on other acute wards.
  • This post will also include gastroenterology out-patient work, approximately 2 clinics per week with support to IBD pts and general gastroenterology.
  • To deliver group education sessions and training on nutrition-related topics, to a range of health professionals and patients.
  • Assist the department with training student dietitians.
  • To contribute to the implementation of the Trust Nutrition and Hydration strategy.

Job responsibilities
  • To provide and develop an effective and evidence-based dietetic service to medical gastroenterology and support eating disorder patients.
  • To take approx 2regular clinics per week supporting patients with gastrointestinal diagnoses.
This includes:
  • providing expert advice to patients, carers and clinicians (both within NBT and areas served by the specialist units) about the most effective nutritional treatment
  • ensuring special diets and artificial nutrition meet or exceed nutrient requirements despite significant dietary or medical restrictions
  • liaising with members of the health care team in hospital and in the community to ensure they are fully informed and able to support the patient in implementing the appropriate nutritional prescription / management for their condition.

Person Specification
Essential
  • Band 5 experience in NHS
  • Experience with Nutrition Support in NHS
  • Interest in gastroenterology as a specialist area

Desirable
  • Dietetic experience of in and outpatient work
