Description

Job summary
To provide an expert level of professional practice within the Neonatal Community Outreach Team, to babies and their families as partners in care before and after discharge from the Neonatal Unit/Transitional Care, using a flexible patient centred care approach.

Main duties of the job
You will be an expert in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of a defined caseload of infants delivering appropriate direct care and health promotion advice to the parents/carers and their families. To actively support the Neonatal Outreach Sister, assisting in the safe, effective and efficient management of the outreach team caseload and deputising in their absence.

To assume responsibility for undertaking tasks delegated by the Outreach sister including mentoring roles, auditing and clinical governance. To promote an environment that is conducive to learning, supporting and participating in the supervision/teaching of new staff, students on placement and other members of the multidisciplinary team. The post holder will be required to work Monday to Saturday 08.30-1630 on a rota system.

Knowledge and Experience
Essential
  • Post registration experience in Neonatal nursing
  • Demonstrate leadership skills and knowledge
  • Teaching Experience

Desirable
  • Qualification in Teaching, assessing
  • Paediatric community nursing/ Health visitor experience
  • Attendance at case conferences, child in need meetings or core groups

Skills and Abilities

  • Basic computer skills and competent to use windows based programs
  • Self-motivated and able to motivate others
  • Excellent Problem solving ability and skills
  • Evidence of ability to use initiative, work within a team and manage change
  • Ability to manage when under both individual and/or work pressures

Qualifications and Training
Essential
  • RSCN Part 8/RN (Child branch, part 15), RM or RN qualification
  • Current UK NMC Registration
  • Willingness to complete Community course
  • Take personal responsibility for your own professional development
  • Promote professional / clinical development within the outreach team, participate in and co-ordinate the ward teaching programme
  • Participate in teaching, supervision and mentorship of students and other staff

Desirable
  • Post basic certificate or related study in Neonatal Critical Care (Eg QIS)
  • 1st Degree in nursing or health related subject or working towards
