Job summary
Are you passionate about education, development, and clinical excellence within the Bristol Royal Infirmary Surgical Wards? We are seeking a dynamic registered nurse to join our Practice Education team as a Practice Education Facilitator (PEF) on a 9-month secondment.

In this Band 6 role, you will lead and coordinate in-service training and professional development for nursing staff, supporting the up-skilling of teams. As a key member of the Division of Surgery Practice Education Team, you will drive innovative learning, promote evidence-based practice, and maintain a visible clinical presence by working alongside staff to help them achieve their professional goals and deliver high-quality patient care.

Main duties of the job
Care Management

• Deliver hands-on clinical education and support across surgical nursing services.
• Act as a visible role model, promoting high standards of care and safe practice.
• Support staff in developing clinical competencies and linking theory to practice.

Professional Development

• Plan and deliver training aligned with Trust and divisional priorities.
• Mentor staff through professional development frameworks.
• Share educational resources to foster continuous learning.

Quality

• Promote clinical governance and evidence-based practice through education.
• Support staff retention via mentorship and a positive learning environment.
• Benchmark training against national standards to drive service improvement.

Management

• Maintain accurate records of training and competency assessments.
• Contribute to quality assurance and annual role evaluations.
• Champion equality, wellbeing, and inclusive education practices.

Communication and Relationship Skills

• Collaborate with senior nurses, educators, and clinical teams.
• Foster multidisciplinary teamwork and effective communication.
• Promote a positive image of the Trust and share best practice locally and Trust-wide.

Knowledge and Experience
Essential

• Significant experience as a registered nurse
• Portfolio of continuing professional development
• Evidence of recent and continued formal or informal teaching experience

Desirable

• Evidence of research and audit participation
• Experience of developing education training packages
• Experience as a clinical supervisor
• Able to understand the education training needs of the area and its staff
• Knowledge of current changes within the NHS and nurse education
• Broad knowledge of the framework for pre and post registration education in UK and Europe

Qualifications and Training
Essential

• Current NMC Registration

Desirable

• Mentorship Qualification or Practice Assessor Certificate
• Teaching & Assessment award Level 3 or above
• Master's Degree
• PGCE
