Job summaryApplications are invited for the full-time post of Specialty Registrar in Respiratory and General Medicine. This is initially for a fixed term period of 12 months with the potential to extend. The successful candidate should have the relevant experience in respiratory at ST3+ or equivalent level. They would be expected to offer a full-time commitment, which includes participation in the general medicine on-call rota.

They will also take part in outpatient clinics. They will be expected to deliver a keen and active role in day-to-day management of patients.

Person SpecificationKnowledge and ExperienceEssential- Evidence of experience in respiratory medicine and a range of acute medical specialties, with experience of managing patients on unselected medical take during core medical training or equivalent
- Demonstrates an understanding of clinical governance
- Evidence that present achievement and performance is commensurate with totality of period of training
- Able to demonstrate proficiency in a range of medical procedures as an indication of manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
- Previous NHS experience
Desirable- Evidence of a formal training course in teaching methods
Skills and AbilitiesEssential- Evidence of good multidisciplinary team working and leadership supported by multi-source feedback or other workplace-based assessments
- The ability to practice independently under consultant supervision and supervise and teach junior medical staff
- Evidence of competence in management of medical emergencies and in-patients through continuous work-based assessments, portfolio evidence, including log book documentation if applicable
- Evidence of competence to work without direct supervision where appropriate including performing Lumbar Punctures, Chest Drain insertion, Ascitic Drain insertion
Desirable- Evidence of a portfolio of audit projects where the audit loop has been closed
Additional & AptitudesDesirable- Evidence of enthusiasm for education and training
- Evidence of skills in the management of acute medical emergencies (e.g. ALERT IMPACT certification)
- Demonstrate interest in an understanding of respiratory medicine
- Evidence of involvement in management
Qualifications and TrainingEssential- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- MRCP or equivalent medical qualification
- Demonstrate current ALS certification or equivalent
Desirable- Higher degrees including MSc, PhD or MD
