Senior Dental Clinical Assistant to join the Oral Surgery and Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery outpatient services at
Bristol Dental Hospital. This is a new 12-month pilot role designed to enhance patient care, improve clinic efficiency and support the wider dental nursing workforce. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the successful candidate will undertake a range of patient-facing, clinic coordination and support duties, helping to ensure the smooth running of busy outpatient clinics while contributing to a high-quality patient experience.
Main duties of the jobThe post holder will act as an integral member of the Dental Nursing team, providing day-to-day support to dental outpatient clinics, working independently within agreed protocols to support the safe, effective and efficient delivery of patient-facing services. The post holder will assist with patient flow, clinical duties as required by the clinic, clinic preparation and turnover, resource coordination, stock and equipment readiness, and the maintenance of safe clinical environments.

Job responsibilitiesKey responsibilities will include:
- Supporting patient flow within outpatient clinics.
- Assisting with clinic preparation and coordination.
- Managing and maintaining clinical stock and equipment.
- Undertaking delegated patient-facing activities within agreed competencies.
- Supporting the wider clinical team to maintain efficient service delivery.
- Contributing to a positive patient experience and high standards of care.
- Working collaboratively with Dental Nurses, clinicians and administrative colleagues.
Person SpecificationEducation and qualificationsEssential- One of the following: oLevel 3 (SCQF - 6): - City and Guilds 3 oNVQ 3 oBTEC National Diploma oExperience equivalent to the above qualifications
- Level 2 Functional skills in English and Math's, or equivalent
- Completion of Level 3 Diploma in Healthcare Support (that maps to the Apprenticeship Standard for Senior Health Care Support Worker)
Knowledge, skills and abilitiesEssential- Effective verbal and written communication skills. Able to complete documentation accurately Competent basic IT skills including email and electronic systems.
- Able to prioritise workload and work with minimal supervision Ability to support clinic flow, prepare clinical areas, monitor stock, identify equipment faults and escalate concerns appropriately.
- Committed to providing high-quality patient care. Maintains dignity, privacy and confidentiality.
Desirable- Awareness of dental outpatient pathways or decontamination processes.
ExperienceEssential- Experience working in a healthcare, dental, outpatient or patient-facing environment. Experience working as part of a team.
Desirable- Experience using electronic patient record or clinic management systems. Experience coordinating clinic resources or supporting busy outpatient services.
