Looking for a flexible, high-impact specialist role in urgent and emergent radiology with opportunities to develop further interests in a broad range of radiology sub-specialities?

Southmead Hospital Operating Unit is offering an exciting opportunity for a Specialist Doctor in radiology to join our expert Radiology team. This is a new post with a chance to shape the future of urgent and emergency radiology and general radiology in one of the UK's most advanced and largest hospital trusts and Level 1 Major Trauma Centre in the South West.

Our mission is to empower compassionate, highly skilled teams to deliver outstanding care in state-of-the-art facilities--with a focus on excellent clinical outcomes and patient experience.

This role centres around delivering inpatient, urgent and emergent radiology services across the hospital, reporting a broad range of studies including Body CT/MRI, Emergency Neuroradiology including Acute stroke, MSK with US. There is the opportunity to develop further interests in a broad range of subspecialities offered at Southmead Hospital Operating Unit. This new post would particularly suit a radiologist looking to increase their NHS experience.

Main duties of the job
Applicants are required to hold the FRCR and hold a CCT or equivalent in Clinical Radiology. Full GMC Registration and passed the OET, both are essential.

The candidate will need to have experience in all forms of general diagnostic imaging. Duties will include taking a shared responsibility for the day to day running of the radiology department and supporting the radiographers and radiology trainees. The candidate will contribute to general body imaging work including the acute / trauma service and thus being proficient in independent reporting of neuro, general and emergency trauma imaging.

Southmead Hospital is a major tertiary referral centre and regional Major Trauma Centre providing a comprehensive range of diagnostic and interventional radiology services. The successful candidate will contribute to the provision of high-quality imaging services across North Bristol NHS Trust, primarily supporting emergency, in patient and trauma care pathways to support our Urgent and Emergency Care programme. There will be additional opportunities to undertake elective care pathway clinical duties in line with the post-holder's sub-specialty expertise and interest. The post holder will undertake independent reporting and clinical radiology duties. They will be part of the wider team of Consultant Radiologists, Radiographers, Advanced Practitioners and multidisciplinary clinical teams, working together and responsible for the clinical management of patients under their care.

The successful applicant will join the team which is integrated in a friendly and welcoming radiology department consisting of 61 consultants. The department provides training for over 20 radiology registrars, neuroradiology and Interventional Radiology fellows with plenty of teaching opportunities.

Qualifications and Registration
Essential
  • FRCR or Equivalent
  • Full GMC registration
  • Previous experience working in the NHS
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience as a Specialty or equivalent grade in Clinical Radiology

Desirable
  • Higher academic qualification

Training and Experience
Essential
  • Previous NHS experience, minimum 1 year, as an independent reporting radiologist
  • Experience of acute and trauma cross-sectional imaging, including body and neuro radiology
  • Log-book evidence of independent reporting
  • Independent ultrasound provision

Desirable
  • Fluoroscopy experience - MSK or urology
  • MDT experience

Further Training, Management, Audit
Essential
  • Evidence of recent CME / training progression at this stage of career
  • Completed QI and Audit projects
  • Knowledge of contemporary NHS management issues
  • Knowledge of political context within which we operate

Desirable
  • Completion of a general management course or programme

Research, Teaching, Publications
Essential
  • Proven teaching ability
  • Willingness to undertake teaching of medical under graduates & postgraduates

Desirable
  • Proven record in research
  • Formal educational qualification (Certificate, Diploma, Masters)
  • Demonstration of involvement in clinical directorate management

Personal Requirements (e.g. Communication, Leadership Skills, Flexibility)
Essential
  • Ability to lead a team and form effective working relationships within a team
  • Ability to inspire, motivate and develop junior medical staff
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of the Core Clinical Services Directorate
  • Good written communication skills; evidence of the ability to communicate with patients, colleagues and staff at all levels
