Specialist Paediatric Pharmacist for Metabolic and Medical Specialties

Job summary
This role is an exciting opportunity to join the paediatric pharmacy team in Bristol Royal Hospital for Children (BRHC), to lead our paediatric metabolic pharmacy service. This role will include working closely with the paediatric metabolic multi-disciplinary team, to help care for patients in both the inpatient and outpatient setting. This role also benefits from working alongside the welcoming and supportive paediatric medical specialties pharmacy team.

The postholder will work together with paediatric pharmacists, clinicians, governance and management teams to ensure the safe and effective delivery of services to paediatric patients.

The role will be based within the City and Weston Hospital Operating Unit.

Main duties of the job
The post holder is responsible for providing a clinical pharmacy service to the Paediatric metabolic team, working closely with the MDT to advise, prescribe and monitor specialist medications for children with metabolic illnesses. Working within the paediatric medical specialties pharmacy team, the post holder will also support the wider inpatient clinical service and development of junior staff members within this team.

Person Specification
Qualifications & Training
Essential
  • Masters Degree in Pharmacy
  • Current Pharmacist Member of the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Post Graduate pharmacy clinical diploma or equivalent
  • Qualified Independent Pharmacist Prescriber

Desirable
  • Member of the Neonatal and Paediatric Pharmacists Group (NPPG)

Skills & abilities
Essential
  • Evidence of commitment to continued improvement of patient experience
  • Evidence of an interest in medicine management agenda
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills & negotiation skills
  • Excellent prioritisation and time management skills
  • Ability to mentor other members of staff
  • Ability to use judgement to challenge and influence prescribing
  • Ability to use and adapt to the use of IT systems within the healthcare setting particularly electronic prescribing and medicines administration (EPMA).

Knowledge & experience

  • Significant Post registration clinical pharmacy experience
  • Working knowledge of hospital pharmacy
  • Evidence of sound clinical pharmacy methods
  • Experience of teaching/training/presentation
  • Evidence of experience of clinically managing paediatric patients
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Experience of audit
  • Experience undertaking Quality Improvement (QI) projects
  • Experience of working as an independent prescriber
