Job summary
This role is an exciting opportunity that has arisen to become part of the paediatric pharmacy team in Bristol Royal Hospital for Children (BRHC), one of the hospital sites within the City & Weston Hospital Operating Unit.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, highly motivated and innovative pharmacist to join our specialist paediatric pharmacy team as a Specialist Paediatric Pharmacist for Thrombosis and Critical Care. This exciting role offers the opportunity to develop and lead specialist pharmacy services across paediatric thrombosis, anticoagulation and critical care, working within a nationally recognised tertiary children's hospital. The successful candidate will become an integral member of the multidisciplinary teams, supporting some of the most complex paediatric patients in the South West, providing expert pharmaceutical care to children receiving anticoagulation and antithrombotic therapies, alongside specialist clinical pharmacy services within paediatric intensive care, high dependency and inpatient/outpatient settings.

Main duties of the job
The role will vary with a wide range of activities. Some examples of the role, but not limited to;

• Providing specialist clinical pharmacy input to paediatric thrombosis and anticoagulation services, supporting the management of children receiving complex anticoagulant and antiplatelet therapies.
• Delivering advanced clinical pharmacy services to the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), advising on the therapeutic monitoring of medication
• Working closely with consultant haematologists, intensivists, nurses and the wider multidisciplinary team.
• Leading medication safety, governance and quality improvement initiatives within thrombosis and critical care.
• Contributing to the development of local and regional guidelines, protocols and education programmes.
• Participating in service development, research and audit activities.
• Supporting the education and training of pharmacists and the wider multidisciplinary team
• Counselling patients and families started on specialist medications
• Formulary/ primary care/district general hospital communication and engagement

Education & Qualifications
Essential

• UK or equivalent Masters degree in Pharmacy
• UK or equivalent postgraduate diploma in clinical pharmacy
• Qualified Independent Prescriber
• Current registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council

Desirable

• Member of the Neonatal and Paediatric Pharmacists Group (NPPG)

Knowledge, skills and abilities
Essential

• Evidence of ability to manage time, organise workload and prioritise effectively
• Evidence of good communications with multidisciplinary team members
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Can critically analyse medication prescriptions for appropriateness and use clinical judgement to challenge and influence prescribing
• Knowledge of the legal framework for the dispensing, prescribing and administration of medicines
• Evidence of an interest in medicine management agenda

Education
Essential

• Evidence of UK based post registrational clinical Pharmacy experience at band 7 or above including a UK obtained clinical diploma in pharmacy
• Experience of clinically managing paediatric patients
• Experience of providing education sessions and/or presentations
• Evidence of research activities (e.g. audit, QI, service development)
• Evidence of continuing professional development

Desirable

• Experience of prescribing for paediatric patients
• Experience of manging anticoagulation therapies
• Mentoring of junior staff
• Experience working with multiple different digital systems
