The supervisory sister is accountable and responsible for the twenty-four-hour care delivery and management of the community service. The supervisory sister will promote and monitor safe and effective practice, enhance the patient experience, provide effective leadership and management and contribute to the delivery of the Trust/Divisional objectives, alongside the community matron

Main duties of the job

• Be supervisory to practice
• Be responsible for professional day to day clinical leadership and operational management of the community
• Ensure delivery of high quality, responsive, safe, efficient and compassionate care
• Support the Matron in developing the service
• Act as a leader and role model, adopting a flexible approach in a role which encompasses leadership, management and occasional clinical responsibilities
• Demonstrate pride in their work and enthusiasm for quality of care
• Be flexible with a caring attitude.
• Have excellent and extended clinical skills

Qualifications and Training
Essential

• Registered Midwife
• At least two years experience at Band 7
• Practice Assessor for Student Midwives

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Essential

• Significant clinical and managerial experience
• Understanding of NMC Code of Practice and requirements of it for practice and behaviour and its application to the management of staff and self
• Be able to demonstrate professional curiosity to ensure safe care is offered by the community teams and hospital outpatient service.
• Manage the responsibility of appropriate decisions that ensure an effective service offer in the community.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise complex situations
• Information technology skills, e.g. maintaining databases, designing presentations with graphs to demonstrate data
• Carry out audit and data collection for ongoing projects and service improvement initiatives
• Detailed understanding of Trust Values in relation to leadership behaviours
• Attention to detail when documenting, planning and collating data

Desirable

• Demonstrate initiative with improving the service offer
• Good awareness of Trauma Informed care approach so to support the Birth Options Conversation offer

Personal Qualities
Essential

• Demonstrate politeness, courtesy and sensitivity in providing compassionate care for patients, visitors/relatives and colleagues
• Work cohesively with all members of the community teams and promote effective liaison with all members of the multi-disciplinary team in ensuring that the very best services to women and pregnant people are provided at all times
• Manage own emotional resilience by escalating concerns and accessing support from matron, Professional Midwifery Advocate and other well being offers within the Trust
