Job summary
This is a fixed-term maternity cover opportunity for an experienced safeguarding practitioner to join the Corporate Safeguarding Team. Whilst working within an integrated all-age safeguarding service, the post holder will predominantly support the children's safeguarding function, providing expert advice, support, supervision and training across acute and community services. The role contributes to the Trust's statutory safeguarding responsibilities and promotes positive outcomes for children, young people and their families. We are looking for an experienced practitioner who is currently working within a safeguarding setting, either in an all-age safeguarding role or one focused on children or adults at risk. Applicants with experience in either area are encouraged to apply; however, the successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain expertise in safeguarding children and child protection to support the primary focus of this role.

Main duties of the job
The adult and children's safeguarding teams are based at Stoke Mandeville Hospital but have responsibility for working with acute and community services provided, which will therefore require travel trustwide.

This post will work within the integrated safeguarding team in order to provide:

• expert advice and support for colleagues in relation to safeguarding adults and child protection concerns
• safeguarding adults and child protection training for all colleagues
• safeguarding adults and child protection supervision for colleagues
• support paediatric liaison activities to enhance continuity of care and integrated child health services.
• effective communication channels with the Buckinghamshire Safeguarding Adults and Children's boards
• robust internal policies and guidelines for safeguarding adults and child protection.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING
Essential

• NMC Registered Nurse/Registered Nurse /RMN/RNLD, Registered Social worker or Registered HCPC AHP
• Degree related to professional role or extensive relevant experience and willingness to undertake further education
• Experience of delivering training

EXPERIENCE
Essential

• Experience of working in a clinical area in community or acute as a Band 6 or 7 with a minimum of 3 years' experience in that grade
• Clear Safeguarding experience (at least 3 years), with a highly developed specialist knowledge of the subject area and clear evidence of directly taking part in safeguarding processes and enquiries.
• Knowledge of local and national guidance and research in relation to safeguarding adults and children
• Knowledge of legal framework and of political and policy changes affecting safeguarding adults and children
• Knowledge of the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards, Mental Capacity Act, Liberty of Protection Safeguards and associated health and social care legislation
• Knowledge of data protection and NHS code of confidentiality
• Experience of working with safeguarding policies and procedures
• Experience with close liaison with multi-disciplinary teams and multiagency staff
• Awareness and understanding of the wider health and safety, clinical risk, and quality issues. Awareness and understanding of equality and diversity

Desirable

• Experience of safeguarding supervision as supervisee
• Experience of safeguarding supervision as supervisor
• Evidence of managing clinical incidents and /or complaints

SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE
Essential

• Excellent interpersonal skills to enable effective working with all groups and all levels of staff, other agencies and public
• Ability to self-manage workload and ensure it is prioritised appropriately
• Experience in producing clear and concise reports to convey information fully and accurately to enable effective multidisciplinary and multi-agency working for the purpose of safeguarding children and/or adults at risk
• Ability to initiate and conduct audits and develop action plans for the purpose of monitoring and improving safeguarding practices within the Trust
• IT Literacy skills sufficient to produce reports, conduct research and communicate via e-mail
• Ability to facilitate learning in others using a variety of methods
• Ability to analyse issues / problems and devise and implement appropriate plan of action
• Able to question and analyse information and to make sound judgements often under pressure in difficult circumstances
• Ability to work under pressure and deal with confrontation

SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES
Essential

• Full UK Driving License to enable travel between sites and off-site meetings
