Job summary
Do you have previous experience of working in Occupational Health? This is an exciting opportunity to join the Occupational Health team as a Band 6 OH Nurse Advisor. We are looking to register reliable individuals with previous OH experience or transferable clinical experience which would allow for quick competency sign off for skills such as Immunisation Screening Questionnaires (ISQs), contact tracing / outbreak management, immunisations, sharps / splashes and blood taking. On site in-house training will be provided. Experience of management referral appointments, health declarations and health surveillance recalls / screening is desirable but not essential. We currently have two placements available - one Full Time (37.5 hours per week) and one Part Time (25 hours per week week). Flexibility may be possible with regards to hours. The placements are Monday to Friday only during core office hours 08:00-16:00 in our purpose-built OH and Wellbeing building (opposite Long Road Sixth Form College) on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus with occasional home working. The placement will be for a period of three months initially for July, August and September 2026.

Main duties of the job
To work as a Senior Nurse within a multidisciplinary team of Occupational Health professionals, providing a high-quality need based Occupational Health service to Cambridge University Hospital (CUH) and external organisations. To be responsible for the provision of specialist Occupational Health clinical services and to advise employees on the prevention of ill health and other aspects of work-related health problems. The nature of the job will occasionally require for you to travel off site, often with equipment, so independent mobility throughout East Anglia is essential. You will also be required to work outside contracted hours in the event of an outbreak or pandemic.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Current registration with NMC on part one or two of the Register
  • Portfolio of evidence of continuing professional development relevant to nursing and role
  • Certificate in OH nursing or relevant healthcare specialty

Desirable
  • Degree or diploma in OH nursing
  • Diploma or module in public health, infectious or respiratory diseases or other healthcare specialty
  • SCPHN - OH
  • Certificate level teaching qualification
  • Mentorship qualification

Experience
  • Proven delivery of evidence based clinical practice within OH environment or Proven delivery of evidence based clinical experience within a related specialty in an NHS environment
  • Experience of case and screening management (relevant to OH/Current role)

Desirable
  • Experience of undertaking management referrals
  • Wellbeing and Health Promotion experience
  • Substantial post registration experience within a busy clinical environment

Knowledge
  • Specialist theoretical and practical knowledge within the OH clinical environment
  • Working knowledge of staff immunisation and screening processes
  • Management of Quality and safety issues and use of KPIs audit and clinical effectiveness and their application to Occupational Health and the improvement of services
  • Awareness of the relevant risk databases and their application in practice
  • Understanding and knowledge of information governance

Desirable
  • Knowledge of risk management processes (health and safety and individual)
  • Working knowledge of health and safety regulations

Skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Leadership skills Proven skills in negotiation and the ability to read situations and respond accordingly
  • Able to remain calm and work effectively in pressured situations
  • Able to motivate self and others to work collaboratively and enthusiastically within a team
  • Able to report effectively on a range of complex situations
  • Willingness to adapt to change as the Department and Organisation develops
  • Able to achieve competency in Department and Trust computer systems: Cority, Word, Outlook, Excel, calendar, PowerPoint, EPIC, DATIX, TRAC
  • Able to identify limits of own knowledge and seek help appropriately

Desirable
  • Committed to the development of junior staff and experience of line managing a junior team member
  • Documentation and presentation skills
  • BLS trained
  • Committed to service and process improvement
  • Assess situations and identify the root cause of a problem
  • Change management skills
