Job summary
The Cambridge Breast Unit (CBU) is seeking an experienced and compassionate Band 7 Breast Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our friendly and supportive team on a part-time basis. This role offers the opportunity to provide high-quality care across the breast cancer, oncoplastic reconstruction, and breast screening pathways. Working alongside our breast consultants and multidisciplinary team, you will support patients referred through suspected cancer pathways and breast screening services, advocate for patients in MDT discussions, and run independent nurse-led clinics requiring advanced clinical knowledge and autonomous decision-making. We are looking for a motivated professional with experience in breast surgery and wound management, excellent communication skills, and a patient-centred approach. The post is scheduled to work Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays to support service delivery (reviewed annually). We welcome informal enquiries and visits to learn more about the role and meet the team.

Main duties of the job
  • The post holder is a recognised expert in the specialty, responsible for assessing, developing and implementing specialist nursing care programmes and undertaking specialist nursing procedures.
  • Responsible for providing specialist advice and support to, and liaising with, other staff. This includes the provision of specialist education and training for other staff and students.
  • Responsible for implementing a clearly defined integrated approach to patient care encompassing new treatments and evidence based care.
  • Required to undertake research and lead clinical audits in own specialist area.

Qualifications
Essential
  • 1. Registered Nurse educated to Degree level or willingness to undertake
  • 2. Post registration qualification in speciality
  • 3. Evidence of continuous professional development.
  • 4. Teaching qualification.
  • 5. Advanced communication skills/counselling qualification or willingness to undertake
  • 6. Advanced clinical assessment

Desirable
  • 1. Research Module
  • 2. Masters Degree

Experience
Essential
  • 1. Significant relevant experience in the Specialty and ability to demonstrate expert nursing skills.
  • 2. Accept personal accountability for own practice.
