Job summary
This specialist and sensitive role is to provide compassionate bereavement care for women, birthing people and families experiencing pregnancy or baby loss. You will be coordinating care for families in subsequent pregnancies, working collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team. You will coordinate activities of the Rainbow Clinic and maintain caseload providing midwifery antenatal care on clinic day

Main duties of the job
Bereavement Support
Provide compassionate, specialist care to families experiencing pregnancy or baby loss, ensuring high standards of clinical practice and emotional support. Deputise for the Bereavement Lead Midwife when required and support staff through training, guidance, and escalation. Coordinate care across the multidisciplinary team, including support with post-mortem processes, governance activities, and quality improvement initiatives. Contribute to national review programmes and deliver training to promote safe, sensitive bereavement care.

Rosie Rainbow Clinic
Coordinate and manage the Rainbow Clinic caseload, including triaging referrals and delivering antenatal care. Act as a patient advocate, providing clinical and psychological support, and work closely with the wider team to ensure holistic, coordinated care.

Leadership and Management
Support the development and review of bereavement guidelines and statutory processes, ensuring compliance with relevant standards. Build strong links with external organisations and professional networks, and act as a key resource for staff. Work closely with governance leads to support continuous improvement and high-quality care delivery. You will also be providing support and advice to the Early Pregnancy unit and NICU Teams as needed

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
  • Registered Midwife
  • Up to date professional portfolio, demonstrating on-going professional development

Desirable
  • Diploma/Degree in Midwifery.

Experience
Essential
  • Ability to demonstrate a working knowledge of midwifery in all areas of the service.

Desirable
  • Ward management experience.
  • Involvement with clinical audit and research.
  • Use of computerised information system.
  • NHS experience

Knowledge
Essential
  • Aware of current research and its impact on evidence base care.
  • Knowledge of NMC Midwives Rules & Standards
  • Knowledge of current reports/guidelines relating to Maternity Care and their implication.

Desirable
  • Involvement in participating in the production of evidence based policies.

Skills
Essential
  • Ability to carry out the full range of midwifery skills in all clinical areas.
  • Developed interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Desirable
  • Perineal suturing skills, Epidural management, IV Drug additives
  • Siting IV infusions
  • Able to support others and mentor in the learning environment

Additional Requirements
Essential
  • The ability to understand and behave at all times, towards patients, visitors and colleagues according to the Trust values of safe, kind, excellent.
  • Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team
  • To rotate to all areas on both day and night shifts.
  • Support and develop midwifery led care
  • Ability to travel between the Trust and community services.
