Job summary
The Salomons Institute for Applied Psychology is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated practitioner psychologist to join our highly regarded Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsychol). This is an opportunity to help shape the programme, develop its curriculum and support an excellent and inclusive learning experience for future clinical psychologists.
You will work in partnership with the Programme Director, programme leadership team, academic and professional services colleagues, trainees and external contributors to support innovation, academic quality and the effective delivery of a complex doctoral programme. We welcome applications who are practitioner psychologists from a clinical and counselling psychology background with an interest in developing the next generation of clinical psychologists, and who want to develop their academic career in a supportive and inclusive programme team.
The DClinPsychol has a strong and distinctive values base, aligned with NHS values and the professional standards of the HCPC and BPS. We are committed to developing reflective, compassionate and socially responsive clinical psychologists through training that values inclusion, collaboration and the meaningful involvement of trainees and people with lived experience.
We would welcome applications from people who may wish to complete this role alongside their current NHS role. 0.4 FTE is the minimum we would consider and will be site based at Salomons Institute on a Thursday and Friday.
Main duties of the job
As a Senior Lecturer and Clinical and Academic Tutor, you will help shape the learning, clinical development and professional identity of future clinical psychologists. This is a varied and rewarding role that combines teaching, supervision, placement development, research support and sustained work with trainees across their doctoral journey.
You will design and deliver engaging teaching, contribute to assessment and research supervision, and help develop clinical placements that offer trainees rich and inclusive learning opportunities. As a manager to a designated group of trainees, you will provide continuity throughout training, supporting their academic progress, clinical development, wellbeing and emerging professional practice. You will also build productive relationships with supervisors, NHS services and programme partners, helping to connect university-based learning with the realities of contemporary clinical practice.
You will be a qualified and HCPC-registered practitioner psychologist with strong clinical experience, sound research skills and experience of supervision and teaching. We particularly welcome the breadth of perspective that comes from working across clinical specialities. Additional training, qualification or accreditation in a recognised psychological therapy, such as CBT, systemic and family therapy or EMDR, would be an advantage. We especially welcome applicants with experience and expertise working in Learning Disability.
About us
You will join a thoughtful and collaborative programme team committed to inclusive training, reflective practice and the development of compassionate, skilled and socially responsive clinical psychologists. The role provides an opportunity to influence the programme, develop as an educator and contribute to the future of the profession.
Canterbury Christ Church University truly welcomes fresh perspectives and new voices. We want you to bring the real you to work, so we are committed to building a genuinely inclusive working environment where everyone is welcomed and where everyone can have a true sense of belonging. Our spirit of community will help us to eliminate discrimination and will enable us all to thrive in a culture that is underpinned by fairness and justice.
