Job summary
The post-holder will work as a member of CNWL's Maternity Trauma and Loss Care Service (M-TLC) and will provide a senior qualified psychology service to women referred into or under the care of the team. Other members of the team are specialist midwives, CBT therapists and the Consultant Clinical Psychologist.

Under the supervision of the Consultant Clinical Psychologist, they will provide specialist psychological assessment and treatment to service users and support and signposting to their families/carers.

Using a psychological and trauma informed perspective, they will provide advice, and consultation on their care to non-psychology colleagues and to the professional network involved in treating and caring for women in maternity teams across the four maternity services within the CNWL footprint, i.e. Hillingdon, Northwick Park, Chelsea & Westminster, St Mary's Hospital.

The post holder will be supported by working as part of an MDT and will work autonomously within professional guidelines and within the overall framework of the service's policies and procedures. They will utilise research skills for audit to support policy and service development; and will undertake research within the area served by the service and of relevance to women and their babies under the care of the MTLC.

Main duties of the job
  • Provide assessments of patients referred to M-TLC based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources.
  • To contribute to the assessments of women with specialist mental health disorders including formulations of predisposing, protective, precipitating and perpetuating factors.
  • Implement care plans for the formal treatment and/or management of a woman's problems, (with consideration of her baby's needs) based upon an appropriate conceptual framework, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy, across the full range of care settings.
  • Evaluate and make decisions about treatment options considering both the evidence base, theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes which have shaped the individual, family or group.
  • To be responsible for implementing a range of time-limited psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups, within and across teams employed individually and in synthesis, grounded in the principles and techniques of a range of theoretical approaches.
  • Provide specialist expertise, advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to women/birthing persons formulation, diagnosis and treatment plan.

Person Specification
TRAINING & QUALIFICATIONS
Essential
  • Good Honours degree in Psychology (2.1 or above) giving eligibility for Graduate membership of BPS.
  • Post-graduate doctorate in Clinical or Counselling Psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996 or those in lateral transfer) as accredited by the BPS and giving eligibility for membership of the Health Care Professionals Council (HCPC).
  • The post holder must be registered with HCPC as a Practitioner Psychologist.
  • The post holder must be eligible for chartered status with the BPS.
  • In addition to routine CPD and supervision, has demonstrated a clear commitment to developing a specialist area of expertise through significant training, personal study, experience, and/or research, as evidenced by CPD log, appraised during IPR/PDR process
  • Experience of taking full clinical responsibility for clients with a range of mental health problems, including care co-ordination, and within the context of multi-disciplinary care.

Desirable
  • Experience of working with adults with complex mental health problems
  • Experience of working with trauma, loss and grief.
  • Experience of working with perinatal presentations.
  • Trained in EMDR/ trauma focused CBT.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
Essential
  • Skills developed through formal training in supervision of other psychologists

PERSONAL/ OTHER
Essential
  • Ability to meet the travel requirements of the post.
  • Ability to develop therapeutic relationships with clients working face to face and online.
