Job summary
Brent CAMHS is seeking to recruit an dynamic individual to strengthen the Brent CAMHS team to support with clinical pressures within the team. This may entail providing high quality assessments to children and young people with mental health concerns as part of a multi-disciplinary CAMHS team, or supporting the neurodevelopmental team with the ADHD waitlist for medication prescribing or case management within one of our sub teams. You may also be allocated a caseload for therapy/intervention with CYP. This is a broad outline of support the team requires, and is dependant on your clinical background.

We invite applications from clinicians with various clinical backgrounds, depending on previous clinical knowledge and skills, as multiple short term positions are available, up until end of March 2027. This role is time-limited, to support with high demand within the service, to support with long waitlists.

The post holder will work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the service's policies and procedures.

Main duties of the job
To provide initial CAMHS mental health assessments drawing on professional training and experience and clinical skills.

To formulate and implement plans for the formal clinical treatment and/or management of emotional and behavioural difficulties of clients, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of these problems employing methods based upon evidence of proven efficacy within modality and with reference to appropriate clinical guidelines and care pathways (e.g. NICE, CEG).

The post holder will ensure CYP routine outcome measures are completed and include family members where appropriate.

To evaluate assessments and recommend treatment options with the wider MDT.

Assess and manage clinical risk to self and others for child and adolescent clients as an ongoing process.

As an NMP (band 7) your priority will be to work through our backlog of CYP awaiting initiation and titration of ADHD medication, running ADHD clinics. You will be supported by the ND team MDT.

As a nurse (Band 5-6) you may also undertake initial assessments or case manage CYP on the caseload.

You may be case managing a caseload of CYP, whilst they are receiving treatment/intervention from a colleague within the team, or if suitably qualified you may be delivering intervention/treatment directly to CYP yourself, depending on your clinical background.

This role will be suitable for either Mental Health Nurse (RMN), a Learning Disability Nurse, Social Worker or Clinical or Counselling Psychologist with CAMHS experience, with the appropriate professional registration.

General:
To maintain and promulgate the highest standards of clinical record keeping including electronic data entry and recording, report writing and the responsible exercise of professional self-governance in accordance with professional codes of practice and Trust policies and procedures.

To maintain up to date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies and issues in relation to both the specific client group and mental health.

To support the development, maintenance and dissemination of the highest professional standards of practice, through active participation in internal and external CPD training and development programmes.

To ensure all mandated and statutory training, professional registration / revalidation, supervision recording, appraisal and development standards are maintained as required within CNWL and the CAMHS ED Service Line.

Education and qualification
Essential

• Doctoral level postgraduate clinical training in psychology
• Masters level qualification in family and systemic psychotherapy
• Qualified Nurse (RNMH/RNLD) Qualified Social worker
• Relevant professional body registration

Desirable

• Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied child psychotherapy
• Non-Medical Prescriber

Experience
Essential

• Experience of specialist assessment and treatment of children, adolescents and their parents as a full member of a multidisciplinary team located in community, primary care, outpatient or inpatient setting
• Substantial experience in working with children and young people. Must have completed an ACP approved preclinical post-graduate course/training, before being accepted for the clinical training and involving personal analysis.

Desirable

• Experience of the application of child psychotherapy in different cultural contexts
• Experience of working in different CAMHS Tiers
• Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision.
