Job Summary
Our Specialist Palliative Care services in Harrow are offering an exciting and innovative opportunity for a specialist palliative care clinical nurse specialist, team lead to join our team. This post will be support and deputising for the clinical lead.

Main Duties of the Job
  • You will work to empower people with advanced progressive illness and those who support them
  • You will maximise their individual quality of life and death by enabling the provision of skilled palliative care.
  • You will support the clinical lead with management of the team.
  • You will support learners.

Qualifications
Essential
  • Registered Nurse with current UK NMC registration
  • First level degree in related subject or evidence of work towards this
  • Teaching and assessing qualification or experience.
  • Advanced Communication Skills Course
  • Level 2 psychology training.
Desirable
  • Non-Medical Prescriber V300 / V150
  • Qualified MSc

Experience
Essential
  • Relevant post registration experience at band 7 in this or appropriate speciality
  • Previous experience in a post involving clinical and managerial responsibilities
  • Previous experience of teaching and developing teaching materials
  • Demonstrates evidence of well-developed clinical practice
  • Ability to develop new ways of working
  • Ability to deal with complex patient care including symptom control and psychological support
  • Able to manage own caseload.
  • Experience in PDP and setting objectives.
  • Conversant with the key principles of clinical governance

Skills
Essential
  • Ability to deal with complex patient care including symptom control and psychological support
  • Ability to communicate unpleasant /difficult information to patients in a variety of settings with sensitivity.
  • Able to analyse data and provide written reports.
  • Intermediate IT skills in word processing and spreadsheets
  • Knowledge of professional and NHS issues, and policy relating to specialist area.
  • Able to perform assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care.
  • Able to participate/undertake clinical audit & research
  • Experience in researching and clinical audits
  • Able to identify learning and development needs and actively seek ways to meet those needs
  • Basic computer skills
  • Understanding of budget and performance
  • Knowledge of NMC Code of Professional Conduct
  • Knowledge of the audit process
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practice
  • Knowledge of clinical governance & supervision and risk management
  • Knowledge of managing difficult situations and conflict resolution
  • Knowledge of how equal opportunities can be implemented in practice

Other
Essential
  • Hold a full, valid, UK driving licence and have access to a car to use for business purposes (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010)
