Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced and compassionate Occupational Therapist to join our Neurology and Rehabilitation team as a Band 7 Highly Specialised Occupational Therapist.

This is an exciting opportunity to work as an autonomous practitioner, delivering highly specialised occupational therapy assessment and intervention for adults with complex neurological conditions, including stroke, acquired brain injury and progressive neurological disorders within our inpatient services.

Using advanced clinical reasoning, evidence-based practice and a person-centred approach, you will develop goal-focused rehabilitation programmes, manage a complex caseload and provide specialist advice to the multidisciplinary team.

As a senior member of the team, you will supervise, teach and mentor occupational therapists, therapy support workers and students. You will also contribute to service development, quality improvement, audit and research to help enhance neurological rehabilitation services.

The service is transitioning to a seven-day service. The successful candidate will be required to participate in a weekend working rota.
Main duties of the job

• Be an active member of the multidisciplinary Barnet Inpatient and Stroke Services team, providing highly specialised occupational therapy assessment, treatment and case management for patients with complex neurological conditions.
• Deliver evidence-based, person-centred occupational therapy interventions, using advanced clinical reasoning to support patients in achieving their rehabilitation goals.
• Take a lead role in developing and embedding evidence-based clinical practice across the service, supporting high-quality rehabilitation delivery.
• Provide clinical leadership, education and supervision to junior occupational therapists, rotational staff, therapy support workers, technical instructors and students, promoting professional development and excellence in practice.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues across the multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated, holistic and effective patient care.
• Lead and contribute to clinical audit, research, teaching and quality improvement initiatives that support service development and improved patient outcomes.
• Contribute to the ongoing development of the Neurology and Rehabilitation Service, ensuring practice reflects current evidence, national guidance and best practice standards.
• Act as a source of specialist knowledge and advice for colleagues, supporting continuous improvement and innovation within the service.

Education/Qualification
Essential

• Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy
• HCPC registration
• Evidence of postgraduate CPD within the specialist neurological area, to master's level or equivalent

Desirable

• Member of RCOT
• Member of RCOT Specialist Section - Neurological Practice (RCOT SS NP)
• MSc in a relevant clinical area

Experience
Essential

• Post-registration experience at band 5 and band 6 level across a wide range of clinical areas including neurology, stroke and rehabilitation
• Evidence of managing own caseload with effective prioritisation and time management
• Experience of supervising and developing junior staff, therapy technicians and assistants through appraisal and teaching
• Experience of proactive involvement in service development
• Experience of clinical audit and evidence-based practice
• Maintaining a relevant and up-to-date range of CPD activities

• Experience of working with community and voluntary services
• Experience of working within a diverse socioeconomic/multicultural society
