Are you a Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) looking for an opportunity to use your mental health knowledge and experience in a different setting?

Would you like to develop new skills, broaden your experience and work as part of a supportive multidisciplinary team?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated individual to join our multidisciplinary Employee Health team, providing an occupational health service to one of the largest community NHS trusts in London.

In this unique role, you will be part of both the Occupational Health Nursing team and a dedicated Mental Health team, working closely with our Practitioner Psychologist, Psychotherapist and Counsellor to support the health and wellbeing of our workforce.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Mental Health Nurse who is keen to expand their professional horizons. Previous occupational health experience is not required, as we welcome applications from registered mental health nurses who are eager to learn and develop within this specialist field.

Main duties of the job
Working as part of our multidisciplinary Employee Health team, you will provide specialist mental health expertise while supporting the delivery of a high-quality occupational health service. You will work collaboratively with Occupational Health Nurses, the Practitioner Psychologist, Psychotherapist and Counsellor to promote the health and wellbeing of our workforce.

To be successful in this role, you will:
  • Be a Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN), with or without Registered General Nurse (RGN) registration.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, building effective working relationships with colleagues and service users.
  • Be confident using IT systems and managing a varied workload with a flexible, proactive and organised approach.
  • Have up-to-date knowledge of mental health legislation, professional guidance and best practice, applying this effectively within service delivery.
  • Demonstrate sound clinical judgement alongside strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Work independently while contributing positively to a supportive multidisciplinary team.

Previous occupational health experience is not required. We welcome applications from Registered Mental Health Nurses who are keen to develop their skills within occupational health and will provide the support needed to help you succeed in this specialist area.

Person Specification
Education/Qualification
Essential
  • Registered Mental Health Nurse
  • Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Registration
  • Educated to Masters Level or equivalent combination of post graduate diploma, short courses and experience
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

Desirable
  • Counselling course
  • RGN

Experience
Essential
  • Extensive post registration (RMN) experience
  • Knowledge and experience of utilising a wide range of approaches to the management of clients with musculoskeletal problems
  • Experience of interagency working
  • Ability to deliver mental health awareness and varied concise information
  • Evidence of effective liaison skills
  • Experience of delivering mental health care in non-traditional settings
  • Experience of conducting and reporting comprehensive, frontline psychosocial assessments
  • Articulate and knowledgeable about mental health care issues and care of clients with psychological needs
  • Articulate and knowledgeable of skills needed to deliver a high standard of care
  • Experience of providing individual psychological support to clients
  • Experience of delivering groups / promoting guided self-help interventions
  • Experience of working in an unpredictable work environment
  • Working knowledge of the Equality Act 2010
  • Working knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act 2005
  • Working knowledge of safeguarding procedures
  • Understanding of clinical governance and previous experience of quality assurance

Desirable
  • Working knowledge of mediation process
  • Experience in occupational health setting

Skills and Knowledge
Essential
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the role of mental health practitioner within current emerging health environment and national initiatives
  • Dealing with complex psychological presentations (personality disorders anxiety and depression)
  • Ability to constructively respond to complex work issues i.e PTSD and compassion fatigue, early ill health retirement, bullying and harassment
  • Appreciation of how to integrate and work with mental health and medical issues
  • Presentation skills -. training groups of up to 30 people
  • Ability to plan, prioritise and delegate workloads
  • Highly developed communication skills with the ability to deal with sensitive, conflicting and contentious matters in a sometimes hostile environment on an individual or group basis
  • Basic counselling/listening skills
  • Report writing
  • Management and facilitation of meetings
  • Quality issues
  • Policy writing
  • Maintain an electronic database

Desirable
  • Assessment of clients on sickness / absence long and short term with a mental health component following a management referral
  • Counselling experience
