Join our Community Dental Service and help provide accessible, high-quality dental care to people who may experience barriers to accessing traditional dental services.

The post holder will provide dental care, advice and support to patients using the Homeless Dental Service and to patients who are unable to attend a dental clinic. Care is delivered in both clinic and domiciliary settings, with services based at Soho Health Centre and Parkview Health Centre.

You will:

• Provide safe, effective and person-centred dental care
• Deliver clinic and domiciliary sessions, including visits within the boroughs we serve when required
• Work collaboratively with colleagues to improve access and outcomes for patients
• Contribute ideas to improve dental services for patients receiving care at home
• Work with health promoters to reach people and communities experiencing barriers to dental care
• Recognise safeguarding concerns and follow appropriate safeguarding procedures

Main duties of the job
You will assess, plan and deliver high-quality dental care within your professional scope of practice.

Key responsibilities include:

• Examine patients, diagnose dental conditions and assess individual care needs
• Develop and deliver appropriate treatment and care plans
• Provide interventions to prevent oral disease and promote good oral health
• Recognise medical emergencies and lead the dental team's immediate response using appropriate techniques, equipment and medicines
• Use appropriate local anaesthetic and patient-management approaches to manage pain and anxiety
• Undertake routine exodontia and simple surgical exodontia
• Assess when specialist advice, treatment or referral is required
• Undertake appropriate investigations, including assessment of the developing dentition
• Diagnose restorative needs, select suitable techniques and provide restoration or replacement of teeth
• Work collaboratively with colleagues and other services to support safe, coordinated and person-centred care

Essential

• Full registration with the GDC
• Proven maintenance of post-graduate continuing professional development
• Performer number

Desirable

• Post graduate qualification

Experience
Essential

• Experience of working under the NHS Dental Service contract, especially in relation to the provision of CDS services
• Experience of working with challenging patients
• Communication and relationship building in dental organisations and the wider health and social care environment
• Understanding of basic health and social care terminology
• Experience of demonstrating successful outcomes within agreed time frames whilst demonstrating a flexible, positive and proactive approach.

Desirable

• Experience of clinical audits

Skills & Knowledge
Essential

• Expertise in exodontia.
• Awareness of the sometimes complex medical history issues of people experiencing homelessness.
• Knowledge and understanding of the needs of vulnerable adults and the associated legislative framework to respond effectively to meet these needs
• Ability to work without direct supervision and to use own initiative.
• Ability to communicate confidently with staff of all levels of seniority
