Job summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Specialist Nutrition Support Dietitian (Band 7) to join our Community Nutrition Support Team at Edgware Community Hospital. This exciting role offers the opportunity to lead the development, monitoring and delivery of the Home Enteral Feeding (HEF) Service across Barnet, ensuring safe, effective and evidence-based nutritional care.

Working collaboratively with CLCH colleagues, North Central London partners, GPs, care homes and other healthcare professionals, you will provide expert dietetic support to patients requiring home enteral feeding, oral nutritional support and obesity management. You will promote best practice in nutritional prescribing in line with local pathways, formularies and national guidance, while supporting the identification and management of malnutrition.

As a senior clinician, you will contribute to service development and quality improvement, provide clinical leadership and specialist advice, and support dietitians, dietetic assistants and multidisciplinary colleagues.

The role includes domiciliary visits, care home reviews and face-to-face and virtual clinics, providing person-centred care across a range of community settings. You will also have opportunities to contribute to education, training and student supervision.

Main duties of the job

• Lead the development, implementation and ongoing review of Nutrition Support Care Pathways for Home Enteral Feeding (HEF), working collaboratively with CLCH colleagues and North Central London (NCL) partners.
• Provide expert nutritional assessment, treatment and ongoing management for patients requiring Home Enteral Feeding and community-based nutritional support, ensuring high-quality, person-centred care.
• Utilise project management skills to plan, develop, implement and evaluate enteral feeding initiatives and service improvements in partnership with service users, healthcare professionals and external agencies.
• Ensure practice reflects Trust Strategic Objectives and complies with relevant national and local policies, including NICE Guidance, NHS England standards, Care Quality Commission (CQC) requirements, and NHS London Procurement Partnership recommendations.
• Work closely with acute trusts, Primary Care Networks, the NCL Enteral Feeding Consortium, Medicines Optimisation Teams and other stakeholders to develop and review prescribing guidelines, care pathways and best practice standards.
• Promote the appropriate prescribing of enteral feeds and oral nutritional supplements by providing expert advice and recommendations to GPs, primary care teams and care providers in line with local formulary guidance and national recommendations.
• Support evidence-based care and service improvements to enhance nutritional outcomes and prescribing practices across the community.

Education/Qualification
Essential

• Degree in Dietetics
• Current AHP with UK HCPC registration
• Evidence of other post-registration education and training in nutrition support and enteral feeding

Desirable

• Membership of the British Dietetic Association
• Member of Specialist Interest Group related to Nutrition Support
• Supervisory skills training
• Post-registration training in Behaviour Change

Experience
Essential

• Post-registration and previous experience in a range of clinical areas including nutrition support.
• Experience of formulating treatment plans for malnourished patients or those at risk of malnutrition adopting a food based approach
• Experience of recommending the use of oral nutritional supplements in line with NICE guidelines and ACBS criteria
• Experience in managing patients requiring oral nutrition support with other nutrition related diseases such as diabetes and cancer
• Experience in supervising/training/teaching healthcare professionals
• Experience in the training of student Dietitians
• Experience in conducting nutrition support audits, quality improvement and / or research
• Experience in using behaviour change techniques
• Experience in contributing to policy, procedures, guidelines and clinical standards development
• Experience in working within community dietetics

Desirable

• Experience in demand management of oral nutrition support working with medicines management and GPs
• Experience in home enteral feeding

Essential

• Ability to take leadership role in speciality of Nutrition Support.
• Advanced skills in the assessment & treatment of clients with nutrition related disease
