Job summary
Healthcare assistants (HCAs) are a vital part of the team that supports the staff and patients in wards and departments throughout the hospital. Working under the direction of qualified nursing/ midwifery staff, healthcare assistants carry out a wide range of duties to care for, support, and provide information to patients and their families and the role can be very varied depending upon the area in which the person is employed. They also carry out a range of housekeeping duties, as well as performing basic medical checks, such as taking a patient's temperature, pulse and respiration rate The attitude and behaviour of a healthcare assistant is of far more importance than any formal qualifications. Suitable candidates for the role are friendly, caring and sensitive individuals, who are able to offer social stimulation as well as care to the patients they tend. They will also demonstrate the Trust values - Kindness, Respect, Safety and Excellence - in all aspects of their role.

Main duties of the job
Healthcare Assistants and Maternity Assistants across Chelsea and Westminster Hospital site and West Middlesex Hospital site. We are seeking enthusiastic Healthcare Assistants to join our team here at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. There are Healthcare Assistant vacancies across the medical, surgical and maternity wards in the Trust. Job responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:1. Clinical Support Role:1.1.1 Under direct supervision assist with the delivery of care plan as described by theRegistered Nurse1.1.2 Assist patients with their care needs as required reporting any change in the patientscondition to the registered nurse1.1.3 Support the Registered Nurse and other health professionals with themobilization or transfer of patients1.1.4 Develop awareness of patients in pain and discomfort and report any changes in thepatients condition to the registered Nurse1.1.5 Have an awareness of patients dietary needs, delivering meals, providing patients withdrinks where necessary and providing assistance with eating and drinking if required1.1.6 Demonstrate an understanding of the different needs of individual patients and their carers/ families

Education and Qualifications
Essential

• Demonstrable literacy and numeracy skills at Level 1

Desirable

• Post graduate qualifications in Relevant field

Experience
Essential

• Recent 6mths NHS experience of working in a patient/client care setting environment
• Insight into the HCA role
• Working within a multi-disciplinary team

Desirable

• Previous experience working in an Acute Hospital Setting

• Possess ability to work on own and as part of a team
