Description

Job summary
Chelsea and Westminster Hospital has been commissioned by NHS England to provide gender affirmation surgery for patients with gender dysphoria. Our vision is for an innovative and patient-centred service, based on the principle that patients must have equal access to surgical services whatever their gender identity with reasonable adjustments to the delivery of care to match the individual's needs and circumstances.

The service is hosted by the Specialist Care Directorate and will be delivered in partnership with the Urology, Gynaecology and Plastic Surgery departments. The Trust is seeking to develop a world-class, highly skilled surgical team who will deliver tailored interventions as part of a specialist multidisciplinary team of professionals. The service is led by urologists, with support from plastic surgeons and gynaecologists who will work together to deliver the best possible functional and physical outcomes for patients.

Essential to the service are Clinical Nurse Specialists who play a key role in supporting patients throughout their pathway of care. They work in collaboration with the rest of the clinical team which includes psychologists, psychosexual therapists, Peer support, and a pharmacist. The service is managed by a full time Service Manager and supported by patient pathway coordinators who will be the first point of contact for service users and will provide administrative support to the clinical team.

Main duties of the job
Working across the Planned Care and Specialist Care Divisions the post holder will be responsible for providing senior clinical nursing leadership and professional development to the nursing and support worker teams across the clinical areas. The post holder will provide professional advice and support to the wider multidisciplinary team in the pre, peri and post-operative care of patients following gender affirmation surgery. In conjunction with specialist Gender Dysphoria clinics across the country, the post will ensure timely and effective treatments including post-surgical care.

The post holder will also provide nursing leadership for implementation and evaluation of all education, training and development of staff. They will develop, implement and evaluate policies, guidelines and protocols for the management of patients attending the clinical area in conjunction with the specialist MDT teams. They will be responsible for the interpretation of and maintaining compliance with Trust policies.

The post holder will be responsible for maintaining a suitable and safe environment for patients and staff. They will be aware of the Care Quality Commission and work with the multi-disciplinary team ensuring that they are maintained. The post holder will also be involved in developing and delivering high quality patient centered care and working with the divisional team to ensure this is incorporated within the business objectives.
