We have an opportunity for a Lead Theatre Practitioner to join their team of staff in the Theatres department.
This is a full-time role for 37.5 hours a week. The role holder will be required to cover a flexible shift pattern.
Duties of this role include:- Lead the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care across the perioperative pathway, acting as a specialist or functional lead within the team.
- Ensure that all patient safety checks, including WHO surgical safety processes, are carried out in accordance with hospital policy.
- Maintain clinical credibility by demonstrating best practice, supporting others, and taking the lead in complex or high-risk situations.
- Provide day-to-day leadership and supervision for theatre practitioners and support staff, fostering a culture of professionalism, compassion, and accountability.
- Support the development and assessment of competencies within the team, promoting continuous professional development.
- Actively mentor and coach junior staff, including students and newly qualified team members.
Applicants should meet the following criteria:- NMC or HCPC registered practitioner with significant experience in a theatre environment (e.g. scrub, recovery, or anaesthetics).
- Demonstrated clinical leadership experience and ability to act as a role model to peers.
- Strong understanding of patient safety protocols, safeguarding, infection control, and clinical governance.
- Scrub Practitioner or Surgical First Assistant qualification [for scrub leads].
- ENB 998 and/or mentorship course.
- Approved / recognised anaesthetic course.
- ILS.
- Excellent communication, organisation, and mentoring skills.
- Commitment to personal development and supporting the development of others.
- Specialist training in a defined clinical area (e.g. orthopaedics, robotics, cardiac, major surgery).
- Experience in leading audits, service improvement projects, or clinical teaching.
- Previous experience working within the independent healthcare sector or multidisciplinary surgical teams.
- Familiarity with theatre scheduling systems and electronic patient records.
