two Trainee General Practice Nurses (GPNs) to join the highly successful
General Practice Nursing Vocational Training Scheme (GPN VTS).
Main duties of the jobThis innovative programme provides a structured and fully supported pathway into General Practice Nursing, combining employment within a GP practice with postgraduate academic study and supervised clinical practice.
As a trainee, you will develop the knowledge, skills and confidence required to become a competent and compassionate General Practice Nurse, working at the heart of local communities to improve health outcomes and reduce health inequalities.
This opportunity is ideal for Registered Nurses who are new to General Practice and are passionate about prevention, health promotion, long-term condition management and delivering person-centred care.

Job responsibilitiesAs a Trainee General Practice Nurse, you will be employed within one of two individual practices whilst undertaking a fully funded postgraduate programme delivered by the
University of Hertfordshire.
During the 12-month programme you will:
- Develop core General Practice Nursing knowledge and clinical competencies.
- Learn to support patients living with long-term conditions.
- Opportunity to work alongside experienced General Practice Nurses and multidisciplinary teams.
- Opportunity to complete competency-based assessments and portfolio evidence.
- Attendance at university for teaching and learning, protected learning time and professional development activities.
You will receive comprehensive support from:
- An experienced General Practice Nurse Clinical Supervisor.
- The City & Hackney GPN VTS Team.
- University academic staff.
- Peer support from fellow trainee nurses.
What Qualification Will I Gain?Successful trainees will undertake a
Postgraduate Diploma in Specialist Community Nursing (General Practice Nursing) delivered by the
University of Hertfordshire.
Course fees are fully funded.

Completion of the programme does not guarantee permanent employment; however, previous trainees have successfully progressed into General Practice Nursing roles and continued their careers within Primary Care.

Qualifications- Registered Nurse with current NMC registration.
- Educated to degree level (minimum 2:2 BSc Hons or equivalent).
Skills, Attributes and Commitment- Demonstrate a genuine interest in Primary Care and General Practice Nursing.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Commitment to undertaking postgraduate Level 7 study.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
Experience- Minimum 6 months post-registration nursing experience.
