Job Summary
Are you passionate about improving the health and wellbeing of children and young people? Do you have the skills to inspire positive behaviour change and help young people make healthier choices? We are looking for a motivated, compassionate and enthusiastic Young People's Stop Smoking and Vaping Advisor to join our Public Health team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in tackling youth smoking and vaping by delivering evidence-based interventions that support young people to live healthier, smoke-free and vape-free lives.

Working across schools, colleges, community settings and healthcare services, you will engage with children and young people aged 11-25 years, providing one-to-one support, group education and outreach activities while working alongside a wide range of partners.

Main Duties of the Job
  • Deliver personalised stop smoking and vaping support using evidence-based behaviour change techniques.
  • Develop tailored quit plans and provide ongoing support to young people.
  • Deliver engaging workshops and educational sessions in schools, colleges and community settings.
  • Build strong partnerships with schools, Family Hubs, Youth Services, CAMHS, Primary Care and voluntary organisations.
  • Promote national campaigns including Stoptober and No Smoking Day.
  • Support young people experiencing health inequalities and ensure services are inclusive and accessible.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records and contribute to service evaluation and quality improvement.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary Public Health team committed to improving health outcomes.

About Us
Connnnect Healthcare Rotherham Community Interest Company (CIC) is a federation of 28 GP practices in Rotherham. The organisation is led by a Board of representatives from general practice in the Borough, with executive leadership from a Medical Director on a part-time basis. The organisation currently delivers extended access primary care services in Rotherham and a Physio First service in partnership with the local acute and community trust, the largest of its kind currently operating. In addition, the organisation is supporting the development of primary care networks and manages delivery of training and development to large cohorts of the general practice workforce. Our Vision We are a GP-led organisation and aim to provide services for direct patient care and to support GP practices. We will be a patient-centred, working collaboratively across general practice and with partners to provide high-quality services, positive working experiences for our staff, and to secure the sustainability of general practice in Rotherham

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
  • Degree or equivalent qualification Health Promotion, Nursing, Youth Work, Social Care, Psychology, Education or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • NCSCT Certified Stop Smoking Practitioner qualification, or willingness to complete within six months.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • A full, valid UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for travel between sites are essential.

Desirable
  • Registered Healthcare Professional or Registered Youth Worker.

Knowledge
Essential
  • National tobacco control policies and smoking cessation guidance.
  • Youth vaping trends and nicotine dependence.
  • Behaviour change models including Motivational Interviewing and Making Every Contact Count (MECC).
  • Safeguarding Children legislation and procedures.
  • Health inequalities and wider determinants of health.
  • Information Governance, GDPR and confidentiality.

Desirable
  • Knowledge of NRT prescribing pathways

Experience
Essential
  • Working with children and young people.
  • Delivering health improvement or behaviour change programmes.
  • Delivering one-to-one and group interventions
  • Partnership working across health, education and community services.
  • Recording clinical or service activity using electronic systems.

Desirable
  • Experience within NHS or Local Authority Public Health.
  • Experience delivering stop smoking services.
  • Experience supporting vulnerable or disadvantaged young people
  • Experience contributing to audits and service evaluations.

Skills
Essential
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to engage young people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Excellent organisational and workload management skills.
  • Competent IT skills including Microsoft Office and electronic patient record systems.
  • Ability to analyse service performance data.
