Job Purpose
We have an exciting opportunity for a Theatre Practitioner to join our Surgical Services team. Working as part of a multidisciplinary theatre team, you will deliver safe, effective and patient-centred perioperative care across a range of surgical specialties. Depending on your professional background, skills and competencies, you'll undertake scrub and/or anaesthetic practitioner responsibilities, supporting patients throughout their surgical journey while helping to ensure the smooth, safe and efficient running of theatre services. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with Surgeons, Anaesthetists and clinical colleagues in a highly collaborative environment where patient safety and quality care are at the heart of everything we do.

What you'll be doing
  • Delivering high-quality perioperative care and supporting patients throughout their surgical journey, from preparation through to theatre transfer and handover.
  • Working collaboratively with Surgeons, Anaesthetists, Recovery Practitioners and theatre colleagues to ensure operating lists run safely and efficiently.
  • Undertaking scrub and/or anaesthetic practitioner duties in line with your professional registration, training and competencies.
  • Preparing theatre environments, instruments, equipment, medications and consumables to support safe and effective surgical procedures.
  • Participating in the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist, team briefs and debriefs to promote patient safety and best practice.
  • Maintaining accurate clinical records and ensuring all theatre documentation is completed accurately and contemporaneously.
  • Monitoring patients throughout the perioperative pathway, escalating concerns and responding appropriately to changes in clinical condition.
  • Supporting clinical governance activities, including audits, incident reporting, infection prevention and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Mentoring and supporting junior colleagues while contributing to a positive, collaborative and patient-focused team culture.

What we're looking for
  • Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC) with current professional registration.
  • Previous perioperative experience within a theatre environment, with experience in scrub and/or anaesthetic practice.
  • Strong clinical knowledge and a commitment to delivering outstanding patient care and safety.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive working relationships within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, prioritise workload and remain adaptable in a fast-paced surgical environment.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development and a proactive approach to learning and maintaining clinical competencies.
  • Flexibility to work shift patterns, including weekends and participation in the on-call rota to support service needs.

Desirable:
  • Experience across specialties such as Orthopaedics, General Surgery, Podiatry, Pain Management, Upper Limb Surgery or ENT.
  • Mentorship qualification, cannulation skills and/or additional perioperative qualifications.
  • ALS certification.
