Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Neurodevelopmental Practitioner to join our dedicated Neurodevelopmental Assessment Team in the beautiful county of Cornwall.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated practitioner to become part of a small, supportive multidisciplinary team providing specialist neurodevelopmental assessments for children and young people who are exploring a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, or other neurodevelopmental differences. This full-time post offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference to the lives of children, young people, and their families while contributing to the continued development of a specialist county-wide service.

The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality neurodevelopmental assessments and providing expert advice and support throughout the assessment pathway. They will work collaboratively with children, young people, families, schools, and partner agencies to promote understanding, inclusion, and positive outcomes for neurodivergent young people.

Main duties of the job

• Participate in the delivery of specialist Autism and ADHD assessments for children and young people with complex presentations.
• Contribute to the provision of high-quality neurodevelopmental diagnostic assessments, formulation, and advice.
• Support the development and delivery of short-term interventions for children, young people, and their families.
• Provide consultation, advice, and training to parents, carers, schools, health colleagues, social care teams, and voluntary sector organisations.
• Promote a neurodiversity-affirming approach across the wider professional network.
• Work collaboratively with professional leads and colleagues to develop and improve the neurodevelopmental service.
• Contribute to clinical governance, quality improvement initiatives, and service development activities within the Neurodevelopmental Assessment Team.
• Maintain accurate clinical records and uphold professional and organisational standards.

Person Specification
Education, Qualifications and Relevant Experience
Essential

• Professional Qualification with accreditation such as Qualified Teacher status or the British Psychological Society and or Registration with HCPC/NMC
• Minimum of degree-level training with evidence of additional training relevant to neurodevelopmental disorders and development
• Evidence of own professional development and have additional specialist training and advanced professional qualifications in neurodevelopmental conditions.
• Direct clinical experience of assessment and working with autism, other neurodevelopmental disorders, and with children and young people with complex conditions and needs

Desirable

• Trained to use the ADOS
• Experience of working with multi-disciplinary and multi-agency teams, with an understanding of team roles and professional roles.

Skills and Aptitude
Essential

• Be skilled at integrating psychosocial, physical, emotional and environmental factors within a holistic patient centered approach during the assessment process
• Skilled in time management and organisational skills, working flexibly either autonomously or as part of a team with the ability to engage and network professionally

Knowledge and Abilities
Essential

• Have knowledge of the Diagnostic Criteria for Autism, and features of Autistic Spectrum Disorder and social communication difficulties.
• Have knowledge of differential diagnosis and comorbidities associated with neurodevelopmental conditions (e.g. ASD, ADHD, Tic disorders, DCD, Learning disabilities etc.)
